At home coffee drinkers?
Permalink Closed

DH and I have decieded to give up starbucks and coffee bean cold turkey to save $$ each month.

So we want to start making our own coffee at home - we own a coffee maker already so we dont need to buy that however we will need to buy the beans.

So how much a month would you say you spend on coffee beans ? Trying to figure out what this savings will be ...

TIA!

Depends on what kind of beans you buy!  Costco has a free trade organic variety that I think is $9 for 3 lbs, which is a freaking deal!  Sometimes we buy there, or Trader Joes has good prices too - $6 dollars for a lb.  My grocery store has whole beans in bulk so we buy those sometimes for $5 a lb.  New Seasons/Whole Foods sells theirs (in bulk) for $10 a lb I think.

We make coffee every morning for two people (8 'cups' according to the coffee maker) and go through a little less than 1 lb. a week.  So that could be as little as $12 a month (buying at Costco) or as much as $40 a month (buying at New Seasons/Whole foods).

HTH!

Ditto to Costco and Trader Joe's for coffee. The Kirkland's brand of coffee at Costco is actually roasted by Starbucks, so you're getting essentially the same coffee for 1/3 of the price of a Starbucks pound.

For what it's worth, DH and I drink 11 "cups" a day (I say "cups" with quotations because the coffee maker's idea of a cup is ridiculous) and we go through a little over a pound a week.

DH and I get coffee from Wegman's (grocery store near us, it's FABULOUS if you have one near you) for about $7 or $8 a pound, and each bag lasts us a little over a week. So, we save lots of $$ because 2 starbucks coffees (if I get something fancy) is almost $8. You'll really notice the difference, I used to go to Starbucks every day, sometimes twice a day!

I get good coffee for arounf $8 per pound (on average) and I go through probabaly 2 pounds per months (4 "cups"- which fills a travel mug and a half- per day.)
