Morning-Breakfast

Ok...normally, for breakfast, I eat a bowl and 1/2 of cereal (bran type with raisins) with a banana sliced up with a whole bowl amount of 1% low-fat milk.  I am usually starving in the morning, so I eat pretty fast, probably making me eat more than I need, but I dont have that much time to eat slowly.

I was thinking, do you all think making a fruit smoothie would be healthier, calorie-wise, and body-wise? I would of course make it myself, with frozen fruit, milk (maybe..), or orange juice, and should I add protein powder/whey/flaxseed oil to make it healthier/more beneficial?

So, cereal or shake with protein power?

What do you all think?

Well, I think most people eat more grains and less produce than they should, so a smoothie may be a good way to go just to get all of that in. But if you're already getting the recommended servings of produce and grains every day, I think either way sounds good.

My concern with a smoothie is that you'd not feel full as long.  Maybe if you found a protein powder and added that in?  Or added a couple hard boiled egg whites (on the side, not to the smoothie!) for some protein?

Check out the current issue of Glamour (w/ Carrie Underwood on cover).  There is a fantastic article about retooling your breakfast.  It shows how to make breakfasts more beneficial and balanced.  It was really helpful for me.

In addition to the breakfast makeovers, there are some really cool profiles on what different women eat during the day and how to fix it.  I am going to send copies to my mom, sister, and BF because I think the articles are especially wonderful.

Every morning I have a Carnation instant breakfast (chocolate is my favorite).  Lots of vitamins in it, and it lasts me until lunch.  Lately I've been also having a banana or oatmeal with fruit in attempt to gain weight.

I would think that your breakfast is pretty healthy already. If you get bored with it, though, I would make a fruit smoothie sometimes. The only problem with those (already mentioned) is that it won't leave you feeling as full. I would use frozen berries and some plain yogurt (just watch your serving because sometimes you need two yogurts to get the right consistency)
