Hi, my friend has asked me to go as his plus one to the wedding of a good friend of his.  The wedding is in the COLD midwest.

Anyway, what to wear.  Saturday - mid-day, church wedding.

I don't really like dresses/skirts.  Can I get away with a pantsuit or is that absolutely a no-no?  I have a nice black suit with satin collar, or a regular black suit that I could dress up with a nice shirt.

If I have to do a dress, I can... but need suggestions as I will have to buy one.  I would like it on the longer side as I don't like my legs much.  And, can I wear boots with a kitten heel or is that also a no-no?

TIA girls, I am really clueless and seriously haven't worn a dress in 5 or more years!!!

Living in the cold midwest myself, weddings tend to be quite open here.

I was just at one and there was everything from pant suits on women to skimpy strapless dresses.

I think the suit you mentioned with the satin collar would be very pretty. Put a shiny, maybe even a sequined tank underneath, and you're good to go! Add some patent colored shoes and you would be set to go!

I'm fine with the suit, but with dressier shoes.

Edited to add: I may not be the ultimate authority, since in 2007 I've worn a dress once...

A suit is fine, in my opinion. The satin-collared one sounds more festive, so I'd do that and then just make it more wedding-ish with your shirt, shoes and jewelry.
