So I have always wanted to know this: what does "carat" stand for in a diamonds weight?

Lets say I wanted to buy these earrings, is .05 carats a good weight for these $100 earrings?

A carat is equal to 200 milligrams.

Here is a good link that has a chart that explains what "average" carat weights look like.  It also explains all the other points to consider when buying diamonds.

It's a little expensive in my opinion considering they are a bunch of little diamonds and not solitaires. 0.5 carats for several diamonds isn't worth as much as 0.5 carats for one diamond. Makes sense?
