Check out local stationary stores. I find the best stuff there. And as crazy as it seems, check out Borders or Barnes. I buy great writing books there all the time. I've seen most of the ones I've bought featured all over the web on the design blogs I read. If that's not an endorsement to you, well you might not be as much of a dork as me.

what a great gift idea and i love the ones elle posted-beautiful!! i just wanted to let you know, and this may sound silly, but coming from a left-handed person who journals a lot, if he is a lefty, make sure the journal opens well and bends back. i have bought and never used so many journals b/c it was too difficult and aggrevating to try to write in them...i know this may sound crazy....but i think it makes a big difference! (i hope this makes sense) smile
