Please help - holiday party this weekend
Permalink Closed

Hi girls.  I don't usually post that much but I always enjoy reading your posts and checking out all your great purchases.  I need your advice for a party this weekend.  I bought a cute top...black and flowy with sequins around a scoop neck...that's long enough to cover up my butt but not long enough to wear as a dress without something underneath.  When I hold my hands down at my sides, the hem doesn't quie come to the top of my fingertips.  I wanted to pair it with tights and pull it off as a mini-dress, sort of like this pic on the right. (not actual dress - mine is sleveless - but the top is about the same length...pretty darn short.)  My question is - first, am I crazy?  I love the idea but when i actually tried it on I felt like it looked like I was wear a dress that was WAY too short...not a mini-dress/leggnings combo that is supposed to look that way.  Can this only be done by models or is it OK for us normal people too? hmm    And should I be trying to do this with leggings that look like leggings (cropped at ankle or calf?) or can I try to sport it with leggings with feet and some cute plaformy-like shoes?  I really, really like the idea of this look (and I love my top!) but am just not sure I can pull it off without looking like a chick who forgot her pants.  Please help!Newlookaw2

I like the look in principle, but it's tricky because I think the line between cute and obscene is thin! As long as your backside is FULLY covered and you're wearing opaque tights or leggings (and you're slim enough that it looks good), then I think you can go for it. Maybe try it on with a friend or post a picture on the board to verify that it looks alright.

how 'bout wearing it with some skinny jeans? that'd look cute, i think.

Thanks girls!  I decided to pop in one more store today and found a similar top that it about 2 inches longer...it is clearly a mini-dress and I feel MUCH more comfortable in it, so I am going to pair it with some tights and leave it at that.  I really appreciate your help!
