What's in your medicine cabinet?
Permalink Closed

I'm sick of not having what I need, when I need it.  I just bought Ibuprofen, finally, so I have something for headaches.  What do you keep that has come in handy?  Medicines or anything else.  Haha, dry topic, but I have free shipping at drugstore.com.

-ibuprofen
-tylenol
-zicam (it's a cold medicine, you take it ASAP when you notice yourself getting a cold and it goes away so much faster!)
-pepto bismal (alleviates stomach/heartburn problems, it's a good all-in-one)
-tums (I don't have heartburn problems but I like to have some on hand for visitors, surprisingly a lot of people have need of this and don't bring it with them. And I promise it isn't my cooking! lol)
-heat packs for when I have my period. They stick to your underwear and the ones I get last 12 hours. They're sooo good for cramps.

Benadryl! Don't know what I'd do without it when I get a ton of bug bites.

That's pretty much what we have too.  I do also keep on hand hydrogen peroxide, bandaids, and the little heat wraps for cramps.

I have the same stuff that everyone else posted.  I also have Anbesol, Neosporin, and eye drops.   Recently I bought a bunch of these little boxes in different colors and sizes and am using them to organize all my pills, vitamins, q-tips, cotton balls, etc.  It's really dorky but everything is so much more organized now and it looks nice!

I've never heard of these but I am definitely going to check them out!

do! I love them. You can find them with ace bandages and other joint pain/heat pack stuff in the drugstore. But I will say that you'll have to invest in a pair of granny panties! You can't let them stick to your skin, and underwear like my hipsters and stuff don't come up high enough to have enough material for the whole pack to adhere to.

Children's motrin (liquid bubble gum flavor).  It the only medicine I'll put in my mouth.

Neosporin and bandaids.

Itch cream for bug bites or persistant itches.

I don't have ANY medicine in my medicine cabinet! Some is in DH's - Excedrin (the only thing that kills headaches for me), regular aspirin for DH, Tums, and my prescription Ibuprofen. My medicine cabinet is tiny and DH's is huge, which is why mine only has beauty supplies.

Everything else is in baskets under the sink, sorted as follows:

1. allergy + sinus meds. I have horrible allergies so there are a fair amount of these

2. injury meds & stuff. Ace bandages, band aids, neosporin, gauze pads, witch hazel, rubbing alcohol, etc.

3. cold / flu meds. Vicks, NyQuil, asst. "day" and "night" cold medicine, Dramamine, cough drops, thermometer, etc.

We switched to the basket sorting system two years ago, and it is so much easier to find everything now.

Re: pain relief - try these, which do stick to the skin:
http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=162979&catid=12895

The active ingredient is Chinese wood lock oil (whatever that is) so you often find them in the natural product section.

To answer the Q about vital medicines (most under the sink, not in the cabinet),

Advil
Generic sudafed (HATE taking it)
Prescription cough syrup with codeine, expired
Prescription Ultracet, useless
DH's migraine med for emergencies only
Nexcare bandaids
Generic antibacterial ointment, hydrogen peroxide, rubbing alcohol, gauze
Ace bandages in three sizes
Aloe vera gel
Thermometer
Tiger Balm
Those Salonpas pads for sore lower back
Vick's vaporub (can't recall the last time anyone used it, though!)
Probably lots I'm forgetting, but this covers what we use and some we don't.

This does not begin to cover the homeopathic remedies, herbs and supplements we load up on...

If I were in charge, there would be a lot less in our medicine collection.  My husband is very big on having what we need on-hand.

Many bandaids (husband is a woodworker)
Neosporin
Cortisol Cream
Calydryl Clear
Qtips
cotton pads
Astragalus * awesome for keeping away colds
Airborne
Husband's vitamins, calcium supp
prescriptions
Sharp tweezers
Cuticle scissors
Advil
Pepto Bismol
Benadryl

This is probably TMI (okay, definitely TMI), but I'll go for it... We have to have Preparation H Medicated Wipes on-hand.  Neither of us have a problem, they're just nice to have around to feel extra clean.   Sorry!

Hmmm....trying to remember what's in there, as I type this up from work:

*alcohol
*baby oil
*Tylenol Severe Allergy & Sinus
*Benedryl
*Vapor Rub
*Etc.

I'll finish later, I'm drawing a blank.

HAHA I do too....I didn't want to say it! I actually carry some around when I'm on my period for little clean-ups. I get the individually packaged ones to keep in my purse during my period, but I HATE that there's a big yellow "Preparation H" on it. Make that packaging a little more discreet!

haha I did think of that, I have those at home sometimes, but I need something I can carry around too. Do they make individually wrapped baby wipes? That would be amazing. And slightly less mortifying if someone looks in my purse!
