Workout Recs?
Permalink Closed

Hi Ladies. Well here it is almost winter, and that time of year when I say to myself, "I should get ready for that swimsuit next summer." Do you guys have any great all around work-outs recommendations?

I'm looking for something that tones the body all over, and includes cardio. I really don't want to go to the gym. I don't mind taking a class, but lifting weights and aerobics is so boring. If I'm gonna work out, I want it to be somewhat fun. I was thinking swimming, but wanted to hear other suggestions.

Train for a triathlon! Or at least you could follow a triathlong maintenance or training plan. Check out www.beginnertriathlete.com. They have tons of easy to follow workout plans on there that you can pick and choose. Personally I love the variety of swimming, running, and biking, and I've discovered so many beautiful places on my bike that I didn't even know existed in my area!

Otherwise, I'd really recommend a dance class, especially salsa or ballroom.

One of my friend loves doing this DVD called Turbo Jam. I think she does the cardio party. She told me you can burn like 700 calories doing the Cardio Party. I haven't done it myself, but it looked sort of fun.

A kickboxing class.

They burn tons of calories, are fun and mix it up from week to week.

I can always feel a difference in about the third week. My local rec center offers them for a reasonable rate.

I do salsa and ballroom and while I do love them and think they're good for you, I don't know if they're cardio-intense enough to really burn a ton of calories and tone. Obviously it's exercise, but in my hour-long classes we probably spend 20 minutes standing there watching/listening to the instructor, 20 minutes doing the steps slowly to get the hang of them, and 20 minutes going at regular speed. Not exactly a super-intense workout :)

When we have social dances at my studio, it is a couple hours of nonstop dancing. And it is tiring....but I wouldn't rely on it solely to make me swimsuit-ready.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Does anyone here do Pilates? I'm thinking I might do some sort of cardio, like kick boxing or spin and take something like Pilates for toning.

I take a yoga-pilates combo class, and it's great. I also really like power yoga for overall toning - it's pretty vigorous and gets the heart rate up, too.

I like yoga and pilates.

I alos like to just flip to Fit ondemand and take a look- they change all the time and are free, and there's usually a few fun ones on there. I love to work out at home, but i get so bored after I do a workout a handful of times. On demand works so much better than committing to a dvd for me.

Oh, that's so true! When I had On Demand I used to do their workouts all the time. I loved the variety.

I wish I had the Fit channel, but I don't. I've looked for it. :(
