what are your thoughts on expensive sunglasses?

Never, ever have I considered spending almost $200 on plastic frame sunglasses. Til I saw a pair at APC (they are the white ones on their site www.apr.fr) and really liked the way they looked on my face. I don't usually like the way sunglasses look on me.
Now, I know a lot of people buy pricey Chanel sunglasses, etc. And mainly one is paying for the logo or status, since the logo is pretty prominent. This is none of that. Just plain sunglasses that I really like.
Is it worth it? Are you a lot more careful with nice sunglasses? I don't want to lose or break these. I feel like I need a pair though, my eyes are pretty sensitive.

About two years ago I spent nearly $300 on a pair of Oliver Peoples sunglasses and I think they may be the best purchase I've ever made. I wear them daily so cost per wear is practically nothing, they've fallen from the top of my head to a concrete surface at least six times and there's not a scratch on them - they still look brand new. And yes, I think I am more careful with them because I love them so much and absolutely could not afford to replace them if I broke or lost them.

I think you should get them, especially if you don't usually like sunglasses.

i would pay $$$ for sunglasses, but only because i get them prescription. i probably wouldn't pay much for non-rx unless they were AMAZING.

I don't have Chanel's but I do have several pairs of $200-$300 sunglasses.  I have been wearing sunglasses since I was 12 or so, and my eyes are very sensitive because of it (I wear them when it's snowing or raining too -- just yellow tinted lenses.) Anyway, it's probably the best thing you can do to maintain good eyesight and avoid cataracts later in life (it's like sunscreen for you eyeballs.)

Plus, when you have expensive sunglasses you take better care of them and are more careful with them (in case you're worried about losing them.)

If you love them, and they're haunting you, I think you should get them.

I do not love the ones with big logos. I do have some Chanel ones, but they have tiny little C's that you can hardly see. I buy them based on the fit and the design. I think it is worth it because I have found, after trying on about 50 pairs of sunglasses on my last trip to Sunglass Hut, that the expensive ones seem to fit me better. I think if they are flattering and you love them you should get them. You will be careful with them, because you will know they were an investment.

I used to be morally opposed to spending alot of $$$ on sunglasses because I would always lose mine, drop them, etc. But I have bought at least two pricey pairs in the last year and I love them- definitely better quality, more comfortable to wear, and I do find myself taking better care of them. I think its better in the long run to spend the money on one good pair than keep buying cheapies that fall apart and break and having to keep replacing them...

I think its worth it despite the price tag, because as mentioned above if you wear them every day, they're totally worth it. In my opinion, the more you spend, the more they hold up, but that won't help if you are very forgetful or easily lose things. I do tend to take better care of my more expensive glasses, I make sure to always keep them in a case.

However - I saw the white ones you mention, are you sure you want to invest in white frames?

If you have a hard time finding glasses you like, and you really love these..I'd say it's worth it.

I've never spent a lot on Sunglasses. I'm actually considering investing in a nice pair, though.

I don't have a pair of expensive sunglasses because I am so careless with them, but I think $$$ sunglasses are fine.  If I thought I would not end up sitting on them, I would invest in a pair of Chanels.  I almost did get some Chanels awhile back for my birthday, but I backed out because I was afraid I would mess them up.

I've been lucky to find ones I really like under $100, but if the only sunglasses I liked were $300, I'd definitely get them!

I had a bad experience with a pair of Persol's I bought prescription, but I'm still not against the idea of expensive sunglasses- - especially if you are looking for a pair of logo ones.

I've spent almost $800 on prescription sunglasses, and as a prescription glasses wearer firmly believe in well-designed, usually very pricey frames. smile.gif So I say go for it.

I've spent a lot of money on prescription sunglasses and I have to say, they aren't significantly different (aside from the prescription part) than the ones I buy at Target. That said, I've been tempted by several pricey pairs of sunglasses but only backed out because I'm a cheap bastard. If I really loved them and could afford them, I'd totally buy them, especially if you wouldn't lose them like I would.

Sunglasses are the one thing that I have vowed to never spend significant money on again. Whenever I see a great pair of designer sunglasses, I covet them, but in the past when I have had designer sunglasses, I've always still broken them or lost them. For me the expense hasn't led to durability (but I was buying department store fashion brands not prescription ones). It's just simply a waste of money for me and so now I buy cheap but cute ones. It sounds like many of the ladies on this board love their designer shades and have managed to take care of them, but I have learned that they just don't work for my lifestyle. I guess it's just a matter of how careful you think you are with this sort of thing.

I have three pairs of Chanel sunglasses, and I have to say, two of the pairs I regret buying. I don't think they look that great on me, and they look sort of trendy, but my other pair I absolutely love (they're aviators).

I think expensive sunglasses are worth it, but only if you really love them and know you'll love them just as much a few years down the line. My advice is to buy a pair that are classic and that look amazing on you.

I don't own a pair. If you love it and can afford get it.

I have to say that I am VERY rough with my sunglasses in general ( as is my sister, who collects them and still manages to "borrow" mine) and the expensive designer ones DO manage much better. Those $20 ones always break, or the legs get too loose and twisted. I have 2 pairs of Guccis which have traveled all over the world, tossed in my purse (no case since it takes up too much room) and they are still GREAT! Scratched maybe, but have held up for years!!!

anything perfect is worth the price.

in my case, anything i cherish, i'm usually much more careful with, whether it be sunglasses, clothing, bags... even books!

Love them,  better lenses for your eyes and you wear them every day, so you will feel great wearing them
