I would love to participate too but I don't have 2000 posts. I participated in the 2005 secret santa but not last year due to monetary issues (as in the lack of). I think Erin's idea is great.
As far as the number of posts, I just threw a number out there to get the conversation started -- I honestly don't pay attention to how many posts people have in relation to the perceived value of their contributions/etc.
how about 500 posts (as per ttara's suggestion?) 6 months isn't a bad requirement either, although length of membership doesn't mean much -- one of the shafters of the past was probably one of the longest members of our lucky/FH/ST forum history. plus, there are lurkers/infrequent posters that have been members for a long time.
criteria should be set in advance - leaving it up to members to judge who can and can't participate dependant on posts/length of membership is too subjective.
I think no matter what criteria we set, someone will be disappointed. People flake. I guess everyone should participate at their own risk.
Those interested in coordinating SS should organize something amongst themselves. When you all figure out who the organizers are, I will set up a SS mailbox for you. I see there's some volunteers in this thread.
We still need to determine criteria. Let me find last year's criteria ($, participation dates, mailing dates, etc.) and we'll combine it with the criteria we determine this year.
So far, what Ithink may work is (looking for consensus/alternative solutions from you all): - 500+ posts? if you think less, please share the amount of posts you think it should be set at. 500 is a low amount for an long time, active member. My feeling is that if you don't have 500 posts, you can wait until next year when you do. - email name, address, and phone number? - $20 spending minimum (if you find a bargain all the better, but SPEND no less than $20) - sign up deadline? - assigned SS notifications sent on what date? - mailing deadline? I think we also required a mailing confirmation last year? - should we require an email to SS when the gift(s) are sent?
am I missing anything?

I was willing to bow out until next year and earn my stripes when you said 2000. I think I've been a member for 2 years and haven't participated yet. I don't post as much as others, but I do keep up with the website. I agree time isn't a good determining factor. There are some posters who have been on less than me that have been great additions to this forum.
I think the guidelines you set are good. The truth is, someone may get shafted. It's definitely a risk and it sucks, but that is life!
I would like to do it again this year too. Hopefully I'll have enough posts to participate again this year (but if not, I'll just have to start posting more which is something I'd like to do anyway)...one way or another, I thought it was super-fun last year and I'm in this year if I'm eligible...
I participated last year too. I feel like setting a very high post limit is a little unfair. I have been participating since the Lucky days, then fashionhag and would hate to think I couldn't participate since my posting has decreased.
Any thoughts about setting a post limit or in the alternative length of membership limit?
I am in and I agree with Kari. My situation is the same as hers, so I think some of the others had a good idea with if your posts are lower you have to had been a member for a certain amount time.
I would LOVE to participate with the secret santa this year. I've been a long time member but don't have time to post much since I'm busy with work and school. I hope that I can still participate :)
I didn't participate last year so I don't remember, but did you guys do a 'theme' for the gifts? We had one the year before that, and IMO it made finding a suitable gift much harder ....
