Feeling confused - an update of sorts

Thanks, everyone! I went to the Dr, and basically got nowhere. She asked me a bunch of questions trying to pinpoint what is happening, but she doesn't really have any ideas. I'm getting a ton of bloodwork done in a couple days, but she's not really hopefuly about any of that and thinks I'll probably have to go to a neurologist. boo!

sfclinevandy - that's really interesting! I just moved into my house a couple months ago, and it was uninhabited for about 8 years.  I will have to check up on that!

I had very, very similar symptoms due to my hypothyroidism. A complete inability to concentrate or sometimes when someone is talking to me I absolutely can not grasp what they are saying, it's like my head goes someplace else and the words aren't even entering my ears. I most often hear it referred to as "brain fog." I also have a lot of dizziness, difficulty w/ balance, and horrible headaches.

That said, I would imagine that they'd done a blood test and tested thyroid. If not, it is definitely worth a shot.

What helped me (in addition to thyroid medication) was changing my diet so that I eat in a way that my blood sugar level stays as constant as possible throughout the day. If I let me blood sugar get to low or high, I still get some of those symptoms.

I hope they have an answer for you. I know how that feeling can be really uncomfortable.

hmmm, that's interesting. Every single one of my father's siblings (there's 11 of them) has hypo or hyper thyroidism (I think it's about half and half). Every couple years, I get tested for thyroid problems and it always comes back saying that I'm normal. I almost hope that's what it is, because I am going out of my mind right now.

This is random but have your doctor check for an inner ear infection. I seem to remember reading that the ear is connected to being able to balance. Maybe there's something going on there?

p.s.  you don't sound crazy.

My sister had similar symptoms last year... she was always feeling sick and out of it and had a hard time concentrating on school work. After having every test done and finding nothing, my mom did her own research on line and found her symptoms were similar to both carbon monoxide and mold poisoning. Sure enough, behind the ceiling tiles of her room was an infestation of black mold. After she moved, she instantly felt normal again.

Obviously I don't know about your living situation, but you may want to explore this and see if something in your environment is making you sick.

Even though she had mold poisoning, my sister went to a hardware store and bought a carbon monoxide detector and it went crazy in her room. You may want to pick one up to see if any toxic fumes are detected.

thanks, sfclinevandy. I do have a carbon monoxide detector, so I don't have a problem there!

The bloodwork did no good. They didn't find anything wrong! I've also been taking my blood pressure/sugar a couple times a day, but not finding any real pattern. I have to go see a neurologist soon, I think

ttara - have you had a vitamin panel done, by chance?  There are suprisingly many vitamin deficiencies that cause symtpoms very similar to thyroid problems, depression, etc and most docs don't test for them right away.  Which is a bummer because the 'cure' for them is so easy!  Maybe worth a try?
