This stupid and trivial, but it's driving me nuts. My mom gave us some leftover food in those disposable glad containers a few weeks ago. And now she keeps harassing me to give her back the DISPOSABLE containers! They cost $5!!! I'm so annoyed that she won't just buy some more. They are disposable! The whole reason they were invented was so this exact situation would not occur! WTH?!

OMG, this made me laugh out loud!  My mom does the EXACT same thing!  I can never understand why she wants them back.  Just thought I'd let you know I can totally relate!

I hear you. My sister does a lot of really little things that annoy me to no end. I can't complain about it without sounding really petty, so I have to keep my mouth shut.

I know of someone even worse. She reuses those stretchy plastic covers that you put over bowls (kind of like a shower cap!). I think it's gross because you really can't wash them or dry them very well. Besides that, they are cheap!

I reuse the disposable containers, but throw them away if I don't eat the leftovers in them (especially if the leftovers get moldy!). I don't think I'd ask for one of those containers back if I gave something in it though. Wouldn't want to seem like such a cheapskate!

That's funny. Being an eco-freak, I don't toss them until they're warped or stained or whatever. When my MIL gives us food in them, I always bring them back to her, but my SIL does not.

I consider it a point-scoring opportunity, since MIL always mentions "Thanks! Nicole NEVER brings back the containers...!"

I do this, too. But I actually remember reading somewhere that they should be tossed long before that because they are meant to be disposable and therefore aren't made to resist bacteria as well as non-disposable. Of course, that could be a total myth, but I do remember hearing that somewhere.
