old computer?
Permalink Closed

So I got a new laptop for my birthday (yay!) and now don't know what to do with my desktop.  Space is a premium in my 8 by 8 room, otherwise i'd probably hold on to it.  What should I do with it?  Sell it ? Donate it?  It's a couple of years old, has lots of spyware but if the hard drive was erased, it would be fine.  I just want to do the minimum amount of work necessary, and don't want to straight up throw it away.

Whether you donate it or recycle it, you'll have to wipe clean the hard-drive. Here is a short article from PC World on how to do that. Some options are free and some are relatively inexpensive.

Scroll until you see the subheading entitled, "Computers."

Depending on where you live, it'll probably be easier to donate or sell your PC as opposed to recycling it. People still haven't mastered recycling in a lot of respects.

In NYC it should be fairly easy to donate or recycle.

Here are two I found.
Recycle info: http://www.lesecologycenter.org/les_frames.html

You may try a local youth center to see if they want it.
