I am having oral surgery tomorrow -- the dentist found a "bone fragment" (they think) on my very back molar and apparently you can't just leave it in there (which I asked for, about 5 different times) b/c it will get infected. The surgeon said he has never seen anything like it before, and they can't tell if it's floating around in there or what.
Anyway, tomorrow I am going under general anesthesia so they can "really dig around in there" and he told me today that if this bone thing is connected to my regular tooth somehow, I will lose my entire tooth. If that happens, I will eventually lose the bottom one too. If they can save part of the tooth, I will have to have a bone graft. (Which he says "doesn't really hurt." Riiiiiight.)
I am so scared! I am too young to lose teeth! I have never in my life had tooth problems; I have only ever had one cavity, and I barely needed braces. But both the dentist & the oral surgeon agreed that I have to have surgery, and that they have no idea what this thing is. Boooooooooo.
So if my posts are loopy in the next few days, it's because of the Vicodin.

Ohhhhh, (((((hugs))))) I'm sorry. That blows. I'm sure you will be in very capable hands, though! Good luck, HB! I'll be thinking about you!

(((hugs))) I have crazy horrible teeth...so I am totally in sympathy with anyone who needs work done. Hope they keep you well anesthesized (sp?) and that all goes well!
oh no, I hate going to the dentist:) I had to be put under to get my impacted wisdom teeth out and I was scared too. Just thinking about all the happy medication you'll get afterwards and yummy ice cream lunches;)
good luck today! my teeth have had a lot of problems and i've had more oral surgery than i care to remember, but it's really not that bad. and you get to eat ice cream and watch movies all day afterwards!
your dentist probably told you this, but it helps reduce the pain and swelling if you rinse with warm salt water.
Oh my! Hopefully they will get in there and it will be no big deal. Like scarlett said, at least you get to eat lots of ice cream and watch movies while in recovery!
Oh bummer! I'm sorry! I agree about lounging around and watching movies and eating ice cream (and probably sleeping if the pain meds affect you like they do me). And I think some pain med induced online shopping is always in order
Oh, that sucks. I hope you're feeling okay today. I just had my first filling yesterday (ever!). I was so distraught over finding out I had a cavity that I requested a 2nd opinion. Apparently that's not "done" - whatev. At least you'll have a good excuse for staying home after your surgery. My boss wasn't too keen on letting me go home for being too "numb" to work.
Good lord! Are they trying to make it sound even more dreadful with the "never seen anything like that before" and "dig around" (shudder) comments?? Honestly.
HB, I'm sure you'll be fine, and I applaud you for being so brave.
Oh and make sure to change your pillowcases so that if you bleed while you're sleeping, you won't have ruined your nice pillowcases. <<oh dear, I just read that comment again and decided I'm no better than the alarmist dentist! sorry about that!
