Gym tips??
Permalink Closed

My mom, sister and I joined a local gym yesterday and so far I like it a lot. Yesterday I was just basically trying out the different machines and getting a hang of it. Today we did a "Crazy Cardio" class and it was....crazy! There was a combination of step, push ups, jumping jacks, and some work with the big yoga balls.
We are scheduled to have a training appointment next week on Tuesday and she will weigh us, measure us and ask us what we want to accomplish and then she will give us an idea or a work out that we can do to accomplish that.
So my question is, What can I do meanwhile? I don't know how to use most of the machines so I'm afraid that I might do something wrong and end up with an injury. What kinds of workouts could I do that can get me warmed up to the whole gym idea until next Tuesday?
Sorry this was so long!!!

If you are uneasy about using the weight machines, I'd stick to the cardio machines (bike, treadmill, stepper, ellptical) and then think elementary school gym class - jumping jacks, push ups, sit ups, jump rope, up-downs, or watch others doing floor work and mimic the ones that look interesting. Also, lunges and squats.

what gym is it? if they have a class like basic training or strictly strength those are very good, they teach you the basics of using weights, once you get comfortable with the exercises you can move out to the free weight area by yourself.

I agree to wait to meet with the trainer.  When I joined the gym all  I did was get on the treadmill until I met with a trainer.  The classes are really tough and even at my physical peak I could not handle the classes - just too much.  I would look up at the clock thinking class must be about over and see I still had half a class to go.  I don't really do classes, but they are a really good way to get into shape, especially if you take one that incorporates weight lifting (don't be a wussy and use too light of weights -of course don't go too heavy either, but I never see too heavy with girls, just too light).

Have fun, it can be addictive!
