What did everyone think of Britney's VMA performance?

I thought she looked exteremly awkward and uncomfortable.  It was almost like she was unsure of what she was suppose to do while she was dancing.

I was suprised! It looked like if she couldnt even move. That song has a pretty good beat to be able to dance to it and she just kind of walked around.
I actually wanted her to prove everyone wrong and show that she still has it but she did the opposite. I guess she was nervous....?

So disappointing! I love Britney and was hoping this might be her big comeback. She just looked shaky, uncomfortable, unsure of her choreography-- the whole thing was very awkward and bad. And that outfit was a no-no. It's a shame bc I actually like the song a lot, but this performance didn't do her any favors.

I was really hoping this would help her bring her career back. I didn't think she had a good performance, though. I don't expect Britney to sing live, but usually she is a good dancer. She basically just stood around alot. It was very boring for a Britney MTV Awards performance.

I'm pretty much going to echo the others, but damn, that was a big disappointment. I was so excited to see her performance and was hoping it was going to rock. It didn't.

She had no energy or movement and pretty much stood there swaying a little and taking a couple of steps occasionally. Then throw lipsynching on top of that, and it was embarassing.

I also think that while Britney looks pretty damn good after 2 kids, and better than me (and I've never had kids), that was a baaaaaaad outfit choice for her current body (if you want to call it an outfit). Although, I suppose since she barely wears anything out in public on a daily basis, I shouldn't be too surprised by the lack of clothing at the VMAs.........

EDIT: The video of the performance, in case you missed it:

It made me sad. Does she not have anyone who is looking out for her best interest? Why wouldn't she get a better weave? And while I know we all realize she isn't going to sing live, she should have had some kickass choreography to compensate. It's hard not to compare her to Justin Timberlake. They got their start together and he has so much respect and credibility and she doesn't. Granted, he's way more talented than she, but I also think it comes down to him surrounding himself with the right people.

Ditto to what everyone has said. Her hair looked awful and she looked lost the whole time. I do like the song, but she looked like someone who has never been on stage before. I wanted to see her do well, but I think her career is sort of over at this point.

i couldn't agree more.  dh and i were flipping channels and i was shocked to see how bad it was.  i was embarrassed for her and thought that the celebs in the audience were too.

No comeback for Britney, it was awful and she didin't look like she was enjoying herself at all. Then Sarah Silverman went up om stage and totally bashed her.

She looked like a zombie just going through the motions. Sad.

girlfriend needs to just give up/go away/retire.... such a disappointing performance.  my friends and i were saying that we could have done a better job up there!  seriously, what happened to her??  nobody expects vocal gymnastics from britney, but she's always been an amazing dancer/performer.  it's like her heart just wasn't in it...

I certainly didn't expect her to sing, but she wasn't even trying to lip synch half the time either.  She looked so lost up there, like she didn't know the dance moves, and I swear she almost tripped more than once.  I feel bad for her - it was totally embarrassing and everyone in the audience looked embarrassed for her too.

I also have to say that Sarah Silverman is just crude.  It was really not cool that she called Britney's kids mistakes.  Have some class.

I feel so sad for her. The performance was shockingly bad. I thought the song could be a big hit and I just wanted to see her get her life back together. I am worried that Britney is now destined to go the way of Michael Jackson or Anna Nicole Smith. cry.gif

I only saw the second half, but it was all kinds of bad.  It looked like she wasn't dancing much so her wig wouldn't fall off.

And her fake nail fell off during the performance...

I heard that Sarah Silverman said some sh*t to Brit just before her performance that shook her up and made her uncomfortable, which caused the bad performance. I don't know how true this is, since it was a local radio dj discussing this on his radio show this morning. Anyone hear anything about this? I hate Brit and Sarah Silverman, so I could care less really, but I did find it kinda funny.

Her performance was bad on so many levels. She had no energy, appeared really uncomfortable, and it felt like I was watching a half-ass dress rehearsal.  When the camera panned to the audience it looked like everyone was really embarrassed for her.  At one point near the end she just stopped lip-synching and nearly gave up. I think she just wanted to get it over with.

I didn't think the performance was out-and-out TERRIBLE, but she just seems like a shadow of her former self. She totally looked like she was just going through the motions and maybe hadn't rehearsed as much as she should have. But given that that was supposed to be her "comeback" performance, you'd think she would have brought her game on. I personally think she's over.

that sounds like her record label doing some PR to me. Silverman was totally out of line, and it was pretty cruel for her to say what she did, especially because that performance was bad enough in itself.

I guess I don't understand the idea of nerves in this situation -- this woman has probably performed hundreds of times, in much larger venues. She's been on stage since she was a kid. I've seen high school plays where people were more comptetent. If anything, she looked drugged/drunk/depressed to me.

I just watched the You Tube video that CarrieS put up and wow, that was so bad. The audience looked confused and embarrassed. And understandably so.

I didn't think about it before, but I think you are right.  BF thought she looked like she was on valium or something.  Maybe she took something to calm her nerves and it worked too well.
