I have this pattern and I am planning to make the long sleeved version of the dress but with the shorter length of the black/white version:

I have been trying to decide on a fabric and then I saw Gwen Stefani in this dress.

I already have some wool blend fabric that is a very small black houndstooth.  It is about the size that is on this f21 jacket:

Do you think the long sleeved version of the dress would look good in this fabric or would it just be too much houndstooth?

If you're going to use houndstooth, I think going sleeveless would be your best option.

I agree with kmd. I think if it was a bigger print, you could go with sleeves, but with the smaller one, I'd go with sleeveless.

because your houndstooth print is smaller i think you can get away with doing sleeves.

uhm... could gwen's dress be any shorter?

If anyone can pull off a short dress - it's her.  I think she looks amazing!

I agree w/kmd, I think if you're going to use houndstooth, you should make it sleeveless.

Great idea -- I loved that picture of her when I saw it on one of the gossip blogs on this morning! I agree that you should go sleeveless, but since you probably want to wear it this fall, I just wanted to say that I think it would be also great worn as a "mod jumper" over a black turtleneck and with black opaque tights.

Thanks everyone.  I wonder if I did it sleeveless over a mustard yellow t-neck and black boots how it would look?
