So today one of my customers says to me, "you're such a tiny little thing, how much do you weigh?". I was totally shocked and speechless that a complete stranger would ask a personal question like that. Besides that it was in front of quite a few other customers too. All I could say was "um, I don't know". I'm a little sensitive about my weight and wonder why would somebody think it's okay to ask a skinny girl how much she weighs, but not an overweight person. Am I the only person who thinks this!?
Oh man, don't get me started!! I've had numerous customers ask me what dress or jean size I wear (I guess they want to compare themselves to me or something?!?) I find it SO rude and annoying and I NEVER answer.
I think that people in general think that "skinny" people won't be offended by anything having to do with weight (not that it's true). It's never ok to ask anyone how much they weigh. Sorry that happened to you.
Back when I was a tiny little thing I never minded being asked this, though I agree with you that it is an inappropriate question to ask. But now I never get asked what my weight or size is, doesn't that tell me something? :) In other words, I think you might take it as a compliment, because the person probably felt comfortable asking you this because they thought you looked good. If you looked too skinny or unhealthy, the same person might not have asked your weight.

I used to get those questions all the time (and ruder, even) when I too was a tiny little thing. For some reason people think skinny people are public property. I guess pregnant women go through the same experience.
My favorites were 'Do you eat?/Do you have an eating disorder?' and 'Are you trying to be a model?' (not said in a flattering tone). Also 'How do you stay so skinny?' as if I was on a diet of Marlboros and amphetamines or something to stay thin.
And yeah, it's totally a double standard. I could never go up to a fat person and say "What the heck do you eat to be that big? Have you ever considered exercising? What does your doctor say? Do you fit in a regular airplane seat?"
Ugh, I hate this question! Just last year, in the elevator at work, some woman looked at me and said "Oh My God - you're so skinny - don't you eat?" I replied "no, actually I starve myself, but thanks for asking"
I've gotten these types of questions my whole life "you're so skinny, don't you eat, are you anorexic?" I think it's so rude and you're totally right, you'd never ask an overweight person about their weight. I don't know why making rude comments to skinny people is deemed acceptable.
No one has ever asked me how much I weigh, but many times I've gotten from people, "wow, how do you stay so thin, with the way you eat?" As though I'm a disgusting, greedy piggy who deserves to weigh 50 pounds more than I do. SO RUDE.
It's a daily occurance for me, especially in the lunchroom. Today this girl commented for a such a small person I am, I eat the most unhealthy things and made a reference to the eclair I had yesterday on my break.

How DARE you! Everyone knows that skinny people can't EVER have treats!

Yup. If people aren't asking you about your lack of beef, people have to make smart little comments about how skinny you are. Just today I heard, Oh! Of course she's cold! She's such a tiny little thing! What do you expect? This time it wasn't about me (a co-worker). People do it about age too. Oh! These hot flashes are terrible! Whew! Well...of course Ashley doesn't understand cuz she's just a kid!...Ugh! I'm so haawt!
I think this is fairly common for all sizes. My HR manager (the model of professionalism that she is) poked me in the stomach one day and said "Someone has a sweet tooth!" Then she had the nerve to say "No offense." I let her know that I was very offended and would like her to refrain from making comments about my weight. She spent the next few days apologizing everytime I saw her. Bitch.
My other pet peeve is how many women I work with talk about calories and dieting all damn day! It's the preoccupation with weight that annoys me.

OMG, I hate that! A lot of them bitch and whine about being overweight and talk about dieting but come back with Wendy's for lunch! And after lunch they get junkfood from the vending machine!! Stop complaining if you aren't making an effort to better yourself!

I also get asked this at work ALL the time. I think same as kitty, its because there are trying to compare me to there size or something?
One of our employees who is REALLY tiny , gets asked this alot. I feel bad for her, because it comes up every time she helps someone.
