Lilykind's post regarding picking up merchandise for others at the Rachael Pally sale, and the implication that I may be "offended" by it, is prompting this post.

I want to clarify some things.

1) I am not "offended" by someone picking up clothes for someone else and getting reimbursed for it - I have actually taken someone up on this offer before (a NY member picked up some H&M Stella McCartney pieces for me), and have done it for others (a purchase and shipping for a Canadian member who wanted a coat from an e-tailer that wouldn't ship to Canada)

2) I believe Lilykind was getting the kind offer of a "pick-up" confused with clothing swaps and outright sales of clothing outside of the protection of paypal and ebay.

I simply discouraged direct sales and swapping, and did not want a swap and sale section, as per this thread:
http://stylethread.activeboard.com/index.spark?forumID=44784&p=3&topicID=10638767&commentPage=1

Following the swap section thread, a member immediately started trying to sell her things outright in the shopping section. I never said anything - if she wants to take that risk, that's her business, as anyone else would in picking up things for members and collecting, or buying from other members and receiving.

I simply don't want to encourage direct sales and swaps, or put up a section for it - I think it would result in a big nightmare for everyone (as it has been on other sites), and I'd be stuck in the middle being a mediator.

I suppose that picking up things for others, and getting reimbursed for them could fall under the definition of direct sales. Again, caveat emptor.

3) Lilykind felt I might have been hurt that she thought I might be "offended" by picking up clothing for others. I told her I wasn't hurt, but felt it was bizarre that anyone would think I would be "offended" by this.  It makes me wonder if you all think I'm this neurotic, snobby, tight-ass that wants to control things with no logic to back it up. I mean, what kind of person would be offended by such a selfless, kind gesture?

I can assure you that forum design and rules are all logic-based and designed for your protection as well as ensuring we have a happy, healthy, and safe on-line community.

As long as everyone follows the forum rules, as all regular members do, there's nothing to worry about.

Hi D! I obviously cant speak for Lilykind, but perhaps she meant "offend" by offending any of the rules. Just a thought. I'm sure no one here thinks you're any bit neurotic. We all just want to make sure that we are following the rules so that the forum can continue to be a friendly and safe on-line community. smile

Oh I feel so bad since I had started that thread. I just ended up dontaing most of the stuff or giving it to my sister and her friends to pick through. I guess most of the regulars here just have trust (maybe unfounded) for each other. Sorry for any trouble caused and I don't think anyone thinks you are a "neurotic, snobby, tight-ass that wants to control things with no logic to back it up." After all - you created this great place to talk and share!

Oh, I totally think you're a "neurotic, snobby, tight-ass that wants to control things with no logic to back it up." I mean, hello? Who else would spend their free time creating a site like ST, made solely for the enjoyment of the users? Only a snobby tight-ass, of course. wink.gif

I'm sure LK was just going out of her way to make sure she wasn't overstepping any ST forum boundaries - all good intentions.

BTW, LK, if you're reading this, I want 7 RP dresses so I can have a different one each day of the week (I'll take different colors). And if the $30 in my Paypal account can't quite match the cost, oh well, that's what friends are for, right? biggrin.gif

I can probably get you 7 neon green and acid yellow dresses that barely skim the bum for $30. Sound like a plan? wink

D: I had meant "Offend" in the sense of violating forum rules, which was probably not worded clearly enough in my response. I definitely appreciate everything that you've done to make ST the wonderful place that it is. smile

when you apologized for hurting my feelings in your PM, that to me confirmed it was personal...

whatever - I'll drop it.
