Harry Potter countdown!
Permalink Closed

I am so excited! Anyone else? I think I am going to lock myself away for the day or two it takes me to read, since last time The Soup spoiled the ending for me! I saw the movie last night, and I am re-reading the 6th book in preparation. Anyone else? Any predictions?

I changed my previous prediction (that Harry will die). I think Ginny will be killed by Voldemort (because Harry is a Christ figure and can't have a gf). I also think Snape may sacrifice himself for Harry as a penance for killing Dumbledore.

I'm super super pysched, as well! I pre-ordered so I'm all curious if that means that I get it on the 21st delivered (which wouldn't happen anyway because it's a Saturday) or they'll ship on the 21st. I guess either way I would get it Monday but that will really suck not being able to have the weekend to read it.

I don't know, I can't see her killing of Ginny or any of the minor characters as a way to end the series. I can totally see Snape as self-sacrificing though. I also don't think JKR will kill off Harry, but only because at this point, that's sorta been expected. I have faith in JKR that she will do something very surprising. But who knows...!

I'm going on Thursday matinee to see the movie but my bf saw it last night and said it wasn't as good as the last one. We'll have to see.

I think I'm one of the only people who thinks he will survive! Two reasons: one, the prophecy says "neither can live while the other survives," and if Voldemort survives then that will basically mean that the entire world is doomed. I think Harry will defeat him but that it will be a terrible Pyrrhic victory. Of course, it's possible they will both die, but that's where my second reason comes into play--there's no book without Harry. Logic says there would need to be some denouement after his hypothetical death, but it's unthinkable to me that she could wrap up the story, and the characters, without Harry, because the books have always been so strongly oriented to his perspective.

There's also a part of me that just thinks, "but that's NOT the way it's supposed to happen!" Not that the ending has to be happy, but the hero is not supposed to die! Not even to sacrifice himself to save the world! Argh. I can't wait.

Also, I loved the movie, what did everyone else think? Especially the scenes at the Ministry of Magic, I thought all those scenes were spectacular. I wish they had flushed some things out a little more, but I know they were trying to keep it from becoming a three-hour monster, so realistically there's not too much more they could have done.

I just checked my order status at BN.com and it said the book shipped July 5th but UPS doesn't have any info on it yet. That sounds positive but I really think we'll all get it on Monday which totally defeats the purpose of a pre-order.

I preordered mine through amazon a month ago. I think I remember seeing something about guaranteed delivery on the day of its release. It's not on the website now though, so I hope I'm not imagining things. BF will be busy studying for the bar that weekend, so I'm hoping Harry will keep me from being bored!
I can't wait!

I ordered HP 6 from Amazon, and it showed up on the day of release (I think it was Saturday). It better be here!

Am I the only person that thinks Dumbledore isn't dead? In one of the earlier books Snape talks about a potion that could make a person appear dead and both both Snape and Dumbledore are masters at occlumency. They could have just told the other what to do in their thoughts and no one would have known. Oh, I don't think Harry is going to get it in the end. I am thinking at least 2 Weasleys will bite it though.

About the movie, while it was AWESOME, I am still sad that they had to cut so much out of it. There are so many great moments that just go away or they go unnoticed if you are not a huge HP fanatic (such as myself). Oh, and I am still sad that my favorite character was killed. Even though I knew it was coming I somehow hoped it wouldn't. Kind of like I was hoping the end of The Passion of the Christ wouldn't end up the way it did...I know, I'm a romantic...

You might be right. Especially because HP is a kids' version of LOTR. If we follow that formula, Gandalf=Dumbledore, and of course Gandalf's death wasn't real.

I think Dumbledore is definitely dead because:

When he died, the curse on Harry was lifted
The phoenix was in mourning
His picture appeared on the wall just like those of the other former headmasters

I loved the movie, although I too am sad that they cut so much out. It seemed so short! I could have sat through a 3 hour movie, though I suppose for kids that would be far too long.

I can't wait for the book! I am going to a party at B&N with some friends on the 20th. I'm a nerd!

Oh, Sephorablue I would have gone with you if I'd seen this earlier! Dammit!

JK Rowling has gone on record saying that Dumbledore "won't do a Gandalf," or in other words, he is really dead. Of course, she could be saying that to sidetrack us, but in interviews she's been emphatic about never deliberately misleading her readers. So, I think he is really dead. Very sad to think of him being truly gone. I was sobbing when he died in HP 6.

I pre-ordered the last two books from Amazon and both were delivered on the day of release, so I feel pretty confident that it will come through again tomorrow. Of course, I am nervous it won't just because I can't wait to read it!
