Hi! I'm going to be traveling through PA, VA, TN, AR then coming back through LA (maybe Al, MS and GA) and up through SC and NC.

Any recs for sight seeing along the way? Or particular "cool" cities where I should plan my overnights? I will definitely hit Nashville and New Orleans, but other than that i'm pretty ignorant about what's "down there."

TIA!

I don't know the south well at all, but a part of me really wants to go to Dollywood.

Thanks, I will check those out. I definitely want to see Dollywood (and the Rockies), Dolly is one of my idols. Also, can anyone (FP?) suggest any Native American museums/monuments etc in Arkansas. I'll be taking I40 through there.

Thanks again ladies!

That sounds like so much fun!! Where are you from in Western MA?  I live on Martha's Vineyard.  I second Asheville, N.C.  I've heard that that is a really cool place.  I'm not sure where else.

Just out of curiousity, are you doing this alone or with someone else?  I've thought about travelling by myself and feel a little uneasy about doing it alone.

Have so much fun.  It will be a blast.

I live in Arkansas and there aren't really any Native American things around here. If you were going into Oklahoma I could suggest several, but Arkansas doesn't have many Native Americans. In Little Rock, while there isn't much there I would suggest checking out the River Market area. There are restaurants and some bars, etc there. Not much in the way of shopping honestly. There really isn't much to see coming in on 40. You will go through a lot of small towns and not see a whole lot but farm land. There are some wineries between Little Rock and Fort Smith off 40 if you are interested. Let me know and I can give you more info on that.

I do suggest that you see Memphis. Beall Street has a great atmosphere with plenty do and see, pluse you can eat some great bbq and listen to some good music. Graceland is also there, but I'm not sure I would recommend that unless you are huge elvis fan.

On the way back you could stop in Gulf Shores, Destin, Ft Walton Beach area if you go through there (may be out of the way I'm honestly not sure).  It is a cute little beachy area with some fun things to do.

Another town to hit would be Atlanta.  There is plenty do there and I know we have several girls from there who could give you better advice, but Lennox Sq and Phipps Plaza is a cool area for shopping and some restaurants.  Virginia Highlands is another good area with great restaurants, bars, and activities.

Have fun!
