After searching on the internet, I finally found a way to cook beef ribs in the oven. Now my only concern is... should i try and make a homemade bbq sauce or would I be better off just buying a jar of sauce? I found one on recipezaar.com that got a lot of good reviews... but im really worried because the sauce is a big part of the bbq ribs.

Any suggestions

Also... need some ideas as to what to serve with the ribs, i was originally thinking potato and corn or just rice, but would like some different ideas.

I would try to make the sauce, but keep a bottle of one you like in the pantry just in case the homeade sauce doesn't turn out right.

I'm no help with sides...I'd probably do potatoes and corn too.

make the sauce! its so easy to make, and will taste SO much better than a bottle.

I'd probably serve it with corn and cole slaw or some sort of salad.

There is a recipe in the September More magazine for Baked short ribs. It looks easy and delicious!! And you just bake them, no need for a grill!! I think this would be good anytime of year!

I agree that corn and potatoes are good sides to ribs, but I would do fresh corn on the cob because it goes well with the messy and hard to eat theme of ribs and you can find some REALLY good corn on the cob right now.
Plus it's very easy to cook.  Just shuck (sp?) or buy pre-shucked, boil a REALLY big pot of water, turn down and cook corn in it for about 20-30 minutes.

For the potatoes, my family has a REALLY good, easy recipe for seasoned potatoes and onions that you can also shove in the oven and it's pretty fool proof:
1. wash and cut up potatoes and onions in thin slices (leave potato skin on)
2. spread out on a BIG sheet of tin-foil and add a bunch of quarter inch slices of stick butter on top
3.  Sprinkle generously with seasoning of choice (we use season salt)
4.  Put another piece of foil on top and roll edges
5.  Put in the oven with the ribs and they are done with the potatoes are as brown as you want them.

(p.s. spray foil with a little pam so there's no sticking)

SOOO good.
