our first DIY, painted the kitchen...pics
Permalink Closed

We bought a house in february and have been a bit overwhelmed with what to start painting first.  Every single room needs to be painted, including the wood trim.  We decided to start in the kitchen and adjoining den/sunroom/living area (we don't know what to call this room) since the trim is already painted. Everything in these two areas is white on white.  It was just too sterile.

Here are the befores...

One during, my hubby's favorite part...very tricky..

another during...

And the afters...except for a few needed touch-ups.
(Jahni - remember how ugly that pantry was?...it was a very dark forest green with white ivy painted on it...horrible)

we weren't very good with the tape, we had lots of rough edges at the ceiling, but we learned a lot and I think the other rooms will go more smoothly. but the color i love and i think it turned out pretty good.

now we just need new hardware on the cabinets (ordered it a few days ago), new light fixtures, and I would like a new backsplash...then only 7 rooms to go...we are never gonna be done!  and i thought we bought a turn-key house!

Oh, I think yall did a great job! It looks really beautiful.
Painting is a lot harder than you think, huh? I just painted my breakfast nook (gray, too!) and it pretty much sucked. I won't be doing that again!

Looks like your off to a good start!  I know what you mean about that tape!  I don't bother with it anymore (besides that it's time consuming), I'm just extra careful with the brush and the lines turn out cleaner.

Wow! It looks great! That paint really makes the cabinets pop and gives the kitchen some dimension. You're totally right that it was too sterile before.

L-O-V-E It. The color is PERFECT!...although I'll admit that i was kind of attached to the white ivy on the pantry...maybe you could stencil it back on...
Can't wait to see it!
