Pet Hair!
Permalink Closed

So I just moved into my own place (woohoo!) and the landlord told me she had just had the carpets professionally cleaned.  Yesterday my nephews came over & were playing on the floor & ended up covered in dog hair.  So I looked closely & there is pet hair EMBEDDED in the carpet everywhere.  Unfortunately I don't have that wonderful dyson i hear so much about, but I did read online that spraying a diluted mixture of fabric softener & water & then vacuuming will pick it up. Why does this work? Have any of you experienced this? I also bought a rubber broom & rubber gloves & literally started sweeping the carpet & picking up hair by hand.  That works pretty well, its just a huge job.  I plan on trying to fabric softener method & then going back over it with the broom.

haha, you probably have one of my old apts/houses. LOL

You might try one of those long-handled lint rollers. I use those on my furniture and it works pretty well.

Wait, do you have a dog, or is it from the previous tenant? If it isn't from your dog, I'd tell the landlord that the carpet cleaning company didn't get the job done - then make it his/her problem to take care of.

The landlord was the one who lived there before me & it was her dog. She apparently had him come out twice to clean the carpet. I also read that shampooing & steaming just causes the hair to stick to the carpet more. So I told her if that was what he was going to do again then is probably not worth the hassle of me trying to make time to be there during the day. I spent like 2 hours sweeping the living room with a rubber broom yesterday & today I'm going to try the fabric softener method...

The same thing happened to me with our house. But it was CAT hair...which I am allergic too.....anyway The first time I vaccumed, there was actually hair clumping on the top of the vaccum! I ended up vacuming daily, and it really did go away....but then we got a Golden Retriever..and boom same problem..but atleast it is mine now haha.  I would tell the landlord too, and see if they can help you out in some way. I live in military base housing...so no help there haha. Good Luck
