Recipe ideas with canned lump crab?
Permalink Closed

I bought a can of good quality lump crab meat. What can I do with it?

I don't want crab cakes, or a mayo based salad/dip. So far, I've come up with crab and swiss chesse melts on English muffins, mixing it with cream cheese and soft tofu and stuffing things, as well as a pineapple and crab pizza.

No other "meat" itmes please. I've been a vegetarian for 15 years, and am just starting to get my feet wet with crab. Baby steps.

TIA

I'm not sure if other seafood is ok. Seafood newburg is really good. I tried looking for a recipe but they sound so much harder than it really is. I use crab meat, scallops, and shrimp. The sauce is a little thick and creamy. I think it has white wine, cooking sherry, egg, half and half, paprika, white pepper...sorry I dont really have a recipe. I can get it for you later if you would like to try it.

What about a curry, with some rice?

Or wrapped in seaweed with avocado and cucumber as California rolls.

Or as ceviche with lime juice, onion, and scallions - maybe wrapped in a flour tortilla.

Or make gazpacho, and bury scoops of crab in the soup bowls.

If it's really good crab, you may be able to sautee it with olive oil, garlic, and diced tomatoes over linguini or fettucine.

I'm not quite ready for other seafood, but my husband would eat the hell out of that Seafood Newburg. I may google a recipe.

A crab salsa sounds yummy, in fact, I'm thinking I could put some crab on brushetta. That would be delightful. And the gazpacho idea is fantastic. I LOVE gazpacho.

And, how could I forget about California Rolls? I make excellent California Rolls, I will do this, for sure. I really like my rolls with avacado, red pepper and green onion, I'm sure it would be good with that, or with cukes like you mentioned.

Thanks for the ideas girls.
