So yesterday I noticed these pin sized red dots on the top of my feet and ankles. They were a little itchy and sometimes they have a prickly feeling. It's been really hot so I've been wearing sandals for days. I have no idea what is causing this. It looks terrible! Anybody have any idea what this could be?
Okay, I answered my own question. I did enough looking on WebMD and it's called petechiae. Seems like I may have thrombocytopenia. If it bothers me enough I'll have it checked out.
It sounds like you just have a heat rash from your sandals and sweating. Thrombo is a pretty big deal and it's doubtful that if a rash on your foot is your only symptom that you do have it. Petechiae is actually burst blood vessels that bleed into the skin, sorta like a bruise but much more dangerous/clincally significant.
If you still have the spots on your feet, the easiest way to check if it's just a rash/skin irritant is to press down on the area of your foot where the spots are. If the spots go away, more than likey it's a rash. Petechiae won't go away when you apply pressure since it's actuall blood under the skin as opposed to a simple irritation of the skin's surface. Are the spots there first thing in the morning and then all day? Or just towards the end of the day after you've been wearing shoes/sandals all day?
Hope your skin spots have gone away by now!

I'm pretty sure it's not a rash. I did the pressing thing and they didn't go away. They spots are starting to fade now though. Hopefully it doesn't happen again!
