This Letter to the Editor was in our city paper here yesterday.....Completely pissed me off too. I can't believe the paper even published it:
"Degrading ads 05/22/2007 To the Editor
How degrading it is for Ames to see the Tribune run ads for a pro-homosexual campaign. Homosexuality is a sin and is a disgusting practice.
God has allowed these people to burn in their lust towards one another instead of getting married and raising children the natural way because they choose their own path instead of Christ.(Romans 1:27) The Tribune has, in fact, participated in this upsetting practice by allowing these ads. It appears money talks while morality walks (away from the table).
Homosexuals are born sinners, just like me, but they choose to practice nauseating acts without remorse. Don't cover up your sins; come to the cross for forgiveness.
Ames is quickly becoming a moral debauchery. It is interesting to note that our elected state representatives have voted for and supported some of the worst evils passed in the Iowa House. Rep. Lisa Heddens supports the Nazi-like practice of research on humans and then murdering them (embryo stem cell research). Rep. Beth Wessel-Kroeschell supports homosexuals having more privileges instead of valuing all human life and crimes against moms, children or any person for that matter(homosexual rights bill).
It appears to me that The Tribune is going to head down a path that our elected officials are leading us. When are we going to wake up and realize our representatives have the worst record for moral values voting? Their sins are going to be upon us and our children for allowing this to occur if we don't change our course soon!
Tribune, please get a moral compass and begin searching for truth. I don't want opinions; I want truth and so do the citizens of Ames. Don't fall into the trap that the enemy is setting for us and our children.
At least one moral victory has occurred. Praise God the Supreme Court saw fit to ban the repulsive practice of partial birth abortion."
Consequently, I couldn't help sending in my own Letter to the Editor about it, so I hope it gets published! Here's what I sent:
"While I understand that not everyone agrees with homosexuality, the letter from Mr. Chamberlin is full of ignorance and hate. Hes concerned that the city is becoming morally corrupt, and that the ads in the Tribune were spreading the wrong message, yet his letter is spreading a worse message: one of complete intolerance. Mr. Chamberlin, I suggest you re-read the Bible, since it tells Christians to love one another, not hate."
I think that sometimes people misunderstand morality and legality. Mr. Chamberlain has a right to his beliefs, but is unfair to think that everyone else believes the same way he does.
A newspaper should present all sides, not just one. That's the beauty of free speech. You have to listen to the other side, and it gets all the same rights as your side.
Media should cover all sides to a story and I agree with you Choo, people should be more tolerant.
look out! the homoterrornazis are out to molest/recruit your children and conduct stem cell research!
seriously, though, i'm glad the paper published his letter. he just outed himself as a biogted asshat. on paper.
That is true....I never thought of it that way. And the Tribune puts the person's full name and address at the bottom of Letters to the Editor, so not only do we know he's an asshat, but we know where he lives!

OMG, I think my response to this is actually going to be in the paper! Woohoo! Just got a call from the paper, to confirm my last name and the guy said "Okay, we'll get that in for you!"
