So last Sunday night, around midnight, I was home alone.  The boyfriend was out.  I was sitting in the bedroom w/Simon (the puppy) and all of a sudden I hear a knock at the front door.  I think it's SO, so I yell "hun is that you?"  No answer.  I quietly go to the front door and look through the peep hole.  It's not SO, but a young, hispanic guy banging on my door.  I ask "hello, who is it?" and he doesn't respond, but keeps banging on the door.  I asked two more times who it was and nothing.  Obviously, I was scared.  I try calling SO and he didn't answer.  So now I'm really freaked out.  I didn't know what else to do, so I called 911.  In the meantime, my boyfriend called and I told him that I was scared and the situation.  He came rushing home and confronted the guy at my front door.  The guy said he was there to see the girl who lived there and SO asked who that was and he stuttered out the name Nancy - not me.  We live in a secure, high rise apartment and he said someone downstairs let him in.  The cops came and took his info, but really did nothing.  Which mad me mad because he was obviously very, very drunk.  So chalked it up to be a drunken mistake on his part, but that didn't sit well with me - something seemed off...

So last night, SO and I were in the laundry room and we notice a sign posted in there looking for a sexual offender in the neighborhood.  The description of the guy fits the guy who was banging on my door to a tee.  I am so beyond freaked out now - he attempted to rape two girls in my neighborhood this week.  I'm not 100% sure that it's him, but it's a good chance it is.  I'm so freaked out not to mention mad at the cops for letting him go.  Just had to share my story.  I'm so glad nothing happened to me.

Wow, that is so scary!

Go out and buy yourself some bear spray. Its shoots 10x farther than mase, and its 2x as effective and legal. You can buy it at sporting stores.

Wow scary, I'm so glad nothing happened to you though and you did the right thing calling 911 if he comes again you call the police immediately!

Did you get names of the officers who came out the first night? It might be worthwhile to give them a call and tell them that you saw the poster and you think it's the same person. They can either forward your message onto the officers covering the rape/sexual offender or can give you thier names. It might be helpful to have the other cops know that this guy was seen in your building. At the very least, it can't hurt, right?

I'm glad you're okay though. You did exactly what you're supposed to do. I think about stuff like that all the time since the bf is away for the whole summer and I don't have a chain on my door or a peephole. Actually, maybe I should mention something to my landlord about either of those two things being installed. I know I sleep better with a chain on the door.

Like relrel said I would call the police deparment and ask to speak to the cops in assined to the attempted assault cases.

So creepy! If it is the same guy, he probably relies on people answering the door without a thought, especially considering that you live in a secure high rise. I would call the cops again, too.

I am glad that you are ok.  That's really smart of you to trust your insticts like that.  DH is traveling a lot for work lately, so I've been home alone at night - this is a good safety reminder for me.  Thanks for posting this!

Good you didn't open the door.Yesterday someone rang my door bell (my bell is soooooo obnoxious that if I'm not expecting anyone-I'm already nervous). I asked who it was from the wondow- no answer and I couldn't see anyone. I ask 2 more times- no answer, so i just never opened the door.

That is super scary. I am so stupid when it comes to stuff like this and I probably would have opened the door. You handled everything so well! I also think you should let the police know about the possible match.
