kitchen color help!!

I hate hate hate the colors in our kitchen and am goign to rip down the paper and start fresh with color. I'm at a complete loss as to what will look good with the cabinets though....they're so "blah". I want something warm and bright so the space looks bigger. Its so dark right now....

The dining room is the only adjacent room and that's a really pale mint grren, so greens are goign to be out for the kitchen. Any colro ideas at all? I have no idea what will look good and none of the visualizer things I've found have cabinets that are a similar color.

suggestions?

ETA: this is their stuff in the kitchen. And the contact paper on the cabinets will be coming off too (its farm scenes blankstare.gifbleh.gif)

I can't quite tell.  What color are the countertops?

That cabinet color can be difficult to work with.

Instead of trying to beat the cabinets, I would join them by choosing something simple like a rich-but-fresh buttercream/buttermilk color.

Have some well-chosen, well-placed accessories to provide color and impact.  If you put color into a few accessories, you'll be able use more colors than you would if you're talking about paint.

How about a cinnamon shade or some kind of spice color. Or how about a dark plum.
Otherwise is it possible to paint the cabinets?

A light orange color, like a shade of pumpkin is what popped into my mind.

a clay or terracotta is what I've been stuck on too. I just feel like its been so "overdone".
I was toying with the idea of plum, but it might be a lot on the other 3 walls that don't have the cabinetry.

The countertops are gray.

I dont really want to paint the cabinters because I feel like that will decrease the value. I'm determined to find a solution.

Looks to me like the cabinets are very orange/yellow undertone. To not make your kitchen look less "orangey" you need to complement them with a cool color. I would try something opposite the color of the cabinets on the color wheel - and nothing too dark - that will close you in even more. A shade of  aqua would rock - but may not work for your transition into the dining room.

an aqua might work...I could do that with green accents (very water-y) that woudltie it to the dining room....maybe.

Yeah, I was going to suggest a cooler color like a blue, aqua, or sage-y green. A buttery yellow would also look nice--it would make the cabinets blend in a bit without being overkill.

How about doing a darker shade of the green, like two/three shades darker.
