The first thing that comes to mind is yes, it's a pricey version of a lotion. But it's one that won't strip your tan. I used self tanner once, and like the instructions say, I moisturized. The only problem was that the lotion that I was using was actually making my tan streaky and fade in some spots. I'm not sure what ingredient was doing it, but it ruined the tan. Guaranteed, this lotion won't do that.
