I haven't been reading much lately. I can't even remember the last book I read. Actually, I recently reread this because I had leant it to someone and when they started wanting to talk about it, I couldn't remember many details:



I also read this fairly recently. I was pretty disappointed because she is one of my favorite authors, and this didn't grab me at all:

I am not currently reading anything, but this is next on my list. I'm waiting for it to be released.

halleybird- i absolutely love the classics!  do you have any recs? 
just finished:

recommended by a friend.  memoirs of paris in the 20's.  i loved it. 
still reading:

i love the authors style of writing, and the mystical tone of the novel.  Takes place in the south american jungles. 
And i'm STILL working on (started a year and a half ago- haven't read in months):

i do like it a lot, but it started to get slow and i didn't keep on trucking.  maybe i'll finish this weekend, or start it over.

and read a few chapters of these (started months ago):

une si longue lettre is in french, so its near impossible for me to read it.  but i read it in high school and LOVED it.  the other two are also good, but i was not disciplined enough and didn't finish them.

one problem i have is that instead of finishing a new book when it get somewhat slow, i reread an old book that i know i love.  I've read The Outsiders, The Great Gatsby, Gift from the Sea, and I Captured the Castle at least 3 times each. 

I am a huge fan of the classics, but I wanted something REALLY light to read and picked this up:



Lynnie-  My favorite book is Great Gatsby.  A book you should check out is Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier.  I always recommend it and GG when someone is looking for a good classic. 

I'm on a bit of a science and fantasy fiction kick at the moment.

What's next? I don't know. I still need to unpack all my books from when we moved last summer. I had just purchased some before we moved. Didn't get a chance to read them.

It's interesting how some of you are revisiting or introducing yourself to some classics. I have been throwing around the idea of doing the same thing. Good luck!

His Dark Materials trilogy.  I liked the first two books a lot but the third one was slow in parts and a lot of the anti-religion stuff started to wear on me a bit.

halleybird - read I Capture the Castle. It's worth it, especially if it's on sale. I don't think it's kiddie at all, although it's not terribly complicated so younger people can pick it up easily. It won't make you contemplate on life or anything but it's a great period, romantic novel. I'm not a romance type person (unless you count Jane Austen), but I think you'll like it, based on the fact that we've read and enjoyed similar books. Nothing tough but definitely worth the read.
