Sewers...recommendation for fabric?
Permalink Closed

I posted this dress in a different thread, but Im not sure there are any "look-a-a-likes". I might consider having the dress made. What fabric do you think the dress is, or at least what do you think a good material would be to make it in? Im thinking a heavy (-ish) silk.

Thanks for any help!! biggrin

i would use a sateen fabric. for me, the dress seems a bit stiffer than silk would be.

It looks like dupioni silk to me.

That site has lots of colors.

Dupioni is exactly what I was going to say.  fashionfabricsclub.com has piles of it as does fabric.com

I'd guess dupioni too.

Thanks girls! That was one of the fabrics I was thinking of. I visited fashionfabricsclub.com and found a couple different colors I liked. Bloomie, I believe you have ordered from there...is it a good site, or would you recommend going somewhere locally?

Also, Im guessing it would need lining. Would it need lining in the sleeves, or just the body of the dress? Thanks again!

I heart.gif fashionfabricsclub.com.  I just got an email for a 15% off code.  It says to just mention "15% off" in the comments section when you place your order.  This coupon does exclude bridal fabrics and home decorating fabric.  However, don't get in a big hurry for your fabric.  It usually takes 1 to 2 weeks for it to get to you, but it is worth it.

a silk taffeta could also be nice- it would have nice body to it.  though its one of those fabrics where it could also border on prom/bridesmaid.  but i do like it for certain things.
