Calories?

Just curious - how many calories do you have (or try to have) per day?  I've been trying a low calorie diet, and I'm wondering if I'm too low or too high.  I've been trying to aim for about 1000 calories per day, but usually end up between 1000 and 1300 (on the days I'm keeping track!).

I would say that 1,000 is too low; and I think most RDs would agree.  I don't think 1,000 is enough to meet the average metabolic needs of most adults.

That is way too low! I'm not sure how many you should be having. There are fitness calulators that factor in how much you excercise and your weight, and it tells you how many calories you should be taking in per day.

Ok I looked around for some caloric intake calulators. I found this site. http://www.wvda.org/calcs/

Im guessing you should have about 1500-2000 calories per day. It all depends on if youre excercising, and how much (if you are).

That site is awesome, thank you!  I am trying to lose weight, so I do need to eat less than recommended, but I am still way under.

1200 is pretty much the minimum you should have. I aim for 1300-1400 to lose weight.

if you sign up at sparkpeople.com and fill out a little survey it'll tell you what you should aim for.

You should really see a nutritionist who will tell you how many calories your body is burning at rest. You should NEVER go below that.

For me, that number is 1500 calories. To lose weight, I have to eat around that..to maintain, I can't eat more than 1800.

Seriously, 1000 is dangerously low and you could really mess up your metabolism.

definitely check into your calorie intake. 1000 is too low for any adult!

I agree with everyone else in saying that you're intake is way to low.

I aim for about 1600 a day, which is supposedly around what I need to lose, although I'm not losing (meaning I'm eating more than I thought or I'm not working out as much as I should, lol). According to any online calculator I used, 1700-1800 is what I need to maintain.
