I'm happy, elated and scared witless at the same time.
I love flying helicopters so much, that I have decided to change careers to become a full time commercial helicopter pilot.
Training for me to get my CPL (commercial pilot's license) will take a year from when I start. I am also getting my intructor rating as well, which means I can start teaching as soon as I get my CPL. The flight school where I am learning has offered me a job as an instructor once I graduate so I can get flight time in. At this point, I will have 200 hours of flight time. Once I teach for about a year, I will have 500 hours of flight time. THEN companies will begin looking at my resume to hire me as a professional pilot.
I am taking out a loan to pay for the training, and the first few years are going to be lean, especially since I won't be making as much in the beginning as I do now..
BUT I have fallen in love with flying, and I think this is the right career change for me.
It's a complete 180 from anything I have ever done, but I can't see me not flying.
I just had to tell someone...
Now, I am waiting for my career education loan to be approved.
Please, please send good vibes that it is approved and soon!
Best of luck! It is so exciting to realize the career that you know will make you truly happy. I hope that all goes well with your aid package. I'm waiting on mine as well and it is driving me bonkers, ha!!
