Sonoma/Half Moon Bay?????
Permalink Closed

DH and I are planning a road trip from LA to Sonoma with a few stops along the way.  We're planning to drive up to Half Moon Bay - stay there for a couple days, spend a day in SF visiting friends, and then spend three -four days in Sonoma.  This will be over the week of July 4.  Do you all have fun suggestions for restaurants/shopping to do on the way?  Also, good hotels/spas to stay at.  Something luxe is fine - DH hasn't had a vacation since our honeymoon in 2005  and I think he needs a little pampering :)

Just a few suggestions from personal experience.

1. Monterey is wonderful and should not be missed. You can easily spend two days there. Excellent wine-tasting to be had as well.

2. In Sonoma, we once stayed at the Inn at Occidental, and it's been wonderful. Very unique. Check out their "suggested itineraries" for sight seeing.

3. In Sonoma, we love the David Coffaro winery. It is very simple, small - but great., especially for reds. There are many boutique wineries, of course- just drive around :)

4. If you are into antiques, Healdsburg is very nice.

5. You have to see the redwoods! Muir Woods, of course, are the best known, but there are many others - check out http://www.parks.ca.gov/

HTH!

Thanks for your suggestions!

DH's grandmother lives in Monterey - so we're definitely going to stop there.  She's a volunteer at the aquarium, so hopefully we can visit the sea otters!

Are there any restaurants that you recommend in the Monterey/Carmel area?

I think we're going to stay in Napa instead - my SIL lives in Napa, so we're going to stay in around there since she's around over the week.

And, a couple of nights in SF to watch a Giants gamebiggrin

Is there anything I definitely shouldn't miss?  I lived in SF for a summer, but that was almost four years ago!

Thanks again!
