My cousin's baby shower is coming up. I'm going to get her something she registered for, but I always want to give a little something extra that I picked out, too - something they're not expecting.
Is there something you had when your kid was a baby that you *loved*? Is there something you thought you'd love but ended up not ever really using?

This is my favorite gift to give. It's the Chicco Hippo Hook-on High Chair. We bought one when my youngest daughter was born and used the heck out of it. I've bought them for friends' baby showers ever since, and they're always loved. It's $50 @ Babies R Us. They fold up and are completely portable. We just left it in the trunk so we'd always have it.
I actually bought one of these chairs this morning to give to another friend, but I bought a little bit cheaper version. Same maker (Chicco) and same basic design, but less cutesy. It is $35. I'm sure it's just as good. I got it at Babies R Us too.
Babylegs!!! My favorite gift to give - a clothing item for sure, but does it get more practical/fun/cute than these?!
Come in lots of patterns too, and only $12 a piece. This site has a free shipping deal if you buy 2 or more pair, even .
BabyLegs are one size and fit most kids from newborns to size 10. Fits most toddlers to adults as arm warmers. (Great for those cold winter months!)
BabyLegs ...
*Make diaper changes a breeze *Protect soft knees from harsh surfaces *Keep legs warm year round *Provide light weight sun protection *Make EC'n & potty training easier *Jazz up any dance class *Make a fun fashion statement with styles for every occasion *Feet remain free to allow for successful crawling, walking and dancing.
A gift card to the place(s) they're registered is also a good choice, or just to Target so they can pick up the oh-so utilitarian stuff: wipes, dipes, bottles, pacifiers, etc.

i love giving books. i don't think there is any gift that we've used more than books. plus you can write a little note on the flysheet and it's a keepsake forever. i just bought a friend the treasury of curious george for part of her shower gift.
this is one of our "most read". it has all the classics in it (new and old):
other favorites that we've been reading forever:
board books are nice too. "goodnight moon" and "guess how much i love you" are standards you'll find everywhere, but every baby shower i go to the mother to be ends up with multiple copies of these titles. here are some other board books that we've loved:
this is a whole series. they also have matisse, degas, monet, renior and seurat:
this is also a really cute series. there is also "yummy / yucky" and "quiet / loud"
