Help Me!!! I Need a Dress for a Wedding
Permalink Closed

Ladies, I really need you!!!  I am going to a wedding in Scotland in early June and would LOVE some help in picking out a dress to wear.  I rarely go to weddings, especially outside of the USA, and I'll be meeting a lot of my long-term boyfriend's friends for the first time.  I really want to look great and feel confident, but I'm on an extremely tight budget.  Can you help?!  I have no idea what to wear!!!

I want to wear a dressy (but not formal) dress that is ideally under $100.  I'm one of those traditional types that doesn't like to wear black to weddings.  Since it may be cold in Scotland, I'd like to be able to wear a cardigan or jacket over it if necessary.  Anyone willing to help me brainstorm ideas?!

My first thought was something like Kitty just got. (the Shelly Segal dress). Something with sleeves might be a nice option if its going to be chilly in Scotland. Are there any certain styles that you like, or usually stay away from?

Maybe a dress from Target? Their wrap dresses are super cute and inexpensive. That way you could spend a bit more on accessories and shoes.

I'm also a big fan of the embossed beach dresses at J. Crew, of course they may be too casual for the wedding.

Nordstrom's junior section is also a great place to check out.

I LOVE that dress.  Unfortunately it's out of my price range right now although maybe it will come down in the next month...

I like wrap dresses (thanks for the Target suggestion, Alikat -- I will check it out) and lots of other styles of dresses, too!  Prints are great right now, but I don't need a print.  Reds/browns/pinks are my favorite colors.  I often stay away from halter/spaghetti strap/strapless types of dresses or ones that have an extreme a-line.

TIA everyone!

I agree with a wrap dress. I saw this one on Bluefly for $72. I really like the color. I think it would look great with green shoes.

Those are great options, ladies! I'm going to look on the sites right now to see if they have my size.

Collegegirl -- it will be summer there, but the weather is pretty cool -- I'll probably need to pair a shrug or cardigan or something with whatever dress I choose.

So I have a brown DVF wrap dress, with short sleeves, that I'm thinking of wearing now. Pro's: very flattering, already own it, classy/elegant. Con's: isn't as exciting as

or

What do you ladies think I should do?  I really wanted something that people would go "wow" at, but I also am too strapped for cash right now to splurge on what I really want.  Should I go with the brown DVF or one of the dresses posted by Elle or Brazilian?  Or keep waiting for a sale?

If I go with the brown DVF wrap dress, any suggestions for accessories that might up the "wow" factor would be appreciated.

Sorry to be repetitive, but I'm back with a picture of my dress.  What do you think -- wedding appropriate?  If so, how would you accessorize?

I think your dress is wedding appropriate. Are the dresses you really want the two you posted?? I would stick with your dress for now, and keep a look out for sales. The Shelli Segal one is at macys, and the always have sales. So hopefully you can get that one.

For your dress I would wear some fabulous heels and pretty, but not too much jewelry. Probably gold. I can look for some options if you would like help. smile (Im bored at work ashamed)

Brazilian, you are a life-saver! I'm nervous that brown might be too drab, but suggestions for some fab gold jewelry and/or heels to spice it up would be great if you have the time! And since the wedding isn't for a month, I am going to keep an eye out for sales.

Ok I'm thinking bronze shoes, coral wrap, gold bangles.
