Bloggers?
Permalink Closed

I'm wondering if any of you bloggers out there get paid to do it.  If so, who pays you?  Are you sponsored by a company or do you have ads on your site?  How did you get someone to start paying you?

BF and I are going to start a travel blog because in September we are planning to quit our jobs and spend a couple of years traveling the world.  It would be great if we could get paid a little to do it.

First of all, have a great time on your traveling! That's so awesome - I'm not sure I'd ever have the balls to do it.

I know that Google Ads are pretty easy, I know a couple bloggers who use that. You just sign up and put the code in your page. Google scans your page every once in a while and figures out what your content is to configure your ads and who your audience is. They're just text ads in a box, though, so they're pretty easy to ignore.

I've seen that on a lot of pages.  Any idea how payments run?  Is it content based or number of page visits?

www.helium.com pays you to write articles. You get paid based on the topic, your rating (from other users), and how interesting it would be to an advertiser. I just joined and submitted an article which didn't rank too high but it wasn't too long either or well thought out so I earned a penny off of it. Not sure what the normal or average going rate is but you might want to try out a few articles on there to see how it goes. They pay via paypal once you hit $25 and request it.

first off- thats awesome Mandy!!!! How fun!

Aurora- how long does it take for them to calculate how much you make off an article? I joined and wrote three which are ranked pretty high (one is really high) but I still haven't made anything...I'm guessing they just need to be up a while? i couldnt' find much info on how the actual ranking and payment works...

I have these on my blog, but its a policy violation to tell how much you actually make. It isn't bad thoough! You get something for every 1000 times your page is viewed (My page is new and not great and already gets 100 hits a day- I'm sure your's will be WAY more interesting) and something for every ad thats actually clicked on. I don't think many people will actually click on them, but they are small and unobtrusive, so they dont' really distract from the page at all.

If you want to see what they look like on a blog, mine is laurenko.blogspot.com

I think it took about a week for credit to show up but other people's it didn't take that long. I've only done one article due to lack of time so I'm not really familar with the site. once busy season dies down again I'll probably play around some more.

I'm up to a penny now. This could get addicting!

Mandy, that is so cool!  You definitely have to post your blog address here so we can keep up with your travels.

Also, off-topic, but ILC, your blog made me very hungry smile

Ilovechoo, I printed off a couple of your recipe (the pumpkin polenta one and the singapore noodles). I'm scared of polenta because I've never cooked it. Can you give me some tips like what it's supposed to look like, feel like, etc. when it's done?
