I had the chance to go when I was in Dubai, and I took it. The Visa took up a whole page in my passport LOL, and I had to be on invitation from a male, who could vouch that he could afford to bail me out of any trouble I got into.

While there, I made friends with an Afghan war lordling, had about 10 bodyguards armed to the teeth , was asleep when a rocket attack happened near the compound (I woke up thinking it was a truck and then just rolled over and went back to sleep.).

I just thought it would be a cool thing to go do. :)

Wow...that's amazing that you were able to go.  Really interesting pictures too--I feel like despite our war in Afghanistan, I really haven't seen much in the way of pictures, and certainly none from a non-media or non-military person.

Thanks for sharing.  Why did you go, for work or other?

Diane Sawyer has been in Afghanistan this week, she reported from there yesterday and this morning on Good Morning America, and it looks pretty bleak still, which is a shame since things were looking up in 2002.
