I'm on a mad hunt for a substitute for this BR one:
Can't get the BR one because it's freakin' $148; I wouldn't be able to possibly afford until it's at least half that price, or I'd have to charge it, which is a giant no-no. So far, I haven't found any other good substitutes either. The Gap one is the right shape, but not white, although I'm thinking maybe I should break away from traditional black/white/grey/brown that I usually gravitate towards....
I think it's okay and I like the yellow. Honestly, though, I'm not really crazy about either dress because they just seem like an unflattering combo of cut/fabric.

Me too. But that being said, I prefer the Gap dress to the BR one.
I definitely know this style isn't for everyone . I just happen to love it though, since they're soooo comfy!
If it helps at all, I didn't look pregnant in the BR one, which I tried on (which unfortunately made me want it even more). Haven't tried on the Gap one yet, but I'm going to do so after work today.
I saw the gap one in person and it looked VERY voluminous and unflattering, even on the hanger. Unless it would do you some good to look heavier than you are, I would keep looking.
I think the BR one is so overpriced, especially considering the simple cut and cotton white fabric. I love that you took pics of yourself in the dressing room, I do that too!

Hmm, I'll have to keep that in mind about the Gap one then....I'll probably take more dressing room pics
And I completely agree about the BR one; Ridiculously priced for what it is. That's probably what ticks me off the most. It'd have to be half the price of what it is now for me to be able to consider purchasing it and not feeling guilty. They must get together with JCrew and price things, since both are smoking crack when they do so
WHile I love the comfort aspect and the pockets, to me it looks like maternity and that would freak me out that someone might assume I was prego wearing that.

Agreed.

I think it's cute and I love the silhouette of an empire waist. I would not think you were pregnant if I saw you in it.
that said, i think you should spend more on the one you love, and by the time it goes on sale it'll be past season if it's not sold out. the gap one looks fine to me also - i think trying it on is key.
I also want to commend you for marching to the beat of your own drummer and not letting unsolicited opinions sway you

I agree with D. I'd try the Gap one on, and if I didn't like it then I would consider the BR one.

let me correct myself so i don't ruffle any feathers... I do see that you posted "What do you think of this dress?" but my interpretation was "What do you think of this dress as a substitution for the one I really want?" forgive me if i misinterpreted.

Well, I tried on the Gap one (see other post for a review). I do like it a lot, but it's hard to say which one I like more. My main question is just how much more versatile the white one is over the yellow one. At the same time, I'm not kidding when I say I cannot afford $148 for a dress right now. The only way I'd be able to right now would be to charge it on my CC, which is a giant no-no. I'd have horrible buyer's remorse if I did that, especially since I'm trying very hard to get my debt gone by the end of the year. I'm making $300 payments every month and charging half that back up just isn't smart for me right now.
That all said, I either need to hold off on the BR and cross my fingers it goes on sale, or I'll get the Gap one soon (it's $60).
I know I love the BR one, but man, the price just kills it for me......
FWIW, I know we're about the same chest size and I'd wear the BR dress...the fact that it clearly defines where your chest ends is key. But $148 for white cotton from BR is freakin' insane. UGH.
