If you're willing to go a little over budget and pay $556 for a work tote, the black Botkier Sasha Duffle/Hobo I just got is so fab. Super soft and slouchy. The bag retails for $695, but use the code "GRECHEN" for 20% off at jcmadison. I didn't know until I started digging around for coupon codes that it seems to be an "it" bag right now. I also saw it in a new Nordstrom catalog the day after I ordered it. It just happened to be a perfect combo of form/function for me.

Can't help you in the work tote department, but J Crew has some cute totes if you want something very casual....I always want to buy one in the summer, but I am so used to my leather bags I feel odd.......AboutAttitude.com has some GREAt spring bags for under $50 too, if you don't mind leather lk :) I might get this white bag....$48

I don't think that you can ever go wrong with the LL Bean Boat and Tote. They are sturdy, inexpensive and you can customize them to fit your needs!!
