I need to update my spring/summer shoe wardrobe but don't want to buy too many as the season is short and if I have too many, they seem to get outdated before they get worn often.
If you could only have four or five pairs of shoes for the warm season, what style/color would they be?
i agree with relrel, however I would get a pink or orange one also, i tend to wear a lot of those colors in the spring

i think wedges, ballet flats and flat sandals are all good choices. i'm pretty casual in summer so i usually skip heels or anything too serious. but then again... i don't go into the office each day either so i can get away with casual.
i'll be looking for wedges in a natural color and a deep grassy green and flat sandals in a bold black/white print.
Wedge espadrilles. I live in them all summer long. I don't really wear flats, but if you are a flat wearer, I think ballet flats are always summer appropriate (even when they're not everywhere like they are this season).
ETA for me personally, brown, orange, red, black, or green, and then something off the wall like a teal or yellow shoe. But I think the colors will totally be dependent on your actual clothing color choices.
