Neiman Marcus doesn't accept Visa?
Permalink Closed

Does anyone know if only certain Neiman Marcus don't accept Visa credit cards? When I was in LA, I bought some Amore Pacific moisturizer (want to buy more, no other stores carry it) and they didn't accept Visa or MasterCard, so I had to have my Dad use some other card. Then, when I was in San Francisco, I went to buy something, and the SA said they only accept the Neiman Marcus card, and I *think* Discover. Is it just certain Neiman's? TIA!

They also accept Amex, Carte Blanche and Diners Club. They accept everything when you buy online though.

I've only known them to take cash, check, neimans card, or amex/diners

Isn't that crazy? The one in Garden State NJ accepts Neimans,American Express or Personal Check only I had to withdraw from the ATM the Max 3 times and still borrow from the boyfriend because you can only ATM withdraw so much in one day. It's rediculous debit is as good as cash and better than check!

Yes, this is the in-store policy of all of the NM's I've ever been to. I used to have their credit card to deal with this but then I had a whole debacle with them... I hadn't used my NM credit card in ten months and they closed my account without notification due to inactivity. Bizarrely, they still let me buy something with the credit card in store and then called me two weeks afterwards to ask if I could return the product and re-purchase with cash/AmEx/check. Um, no? The store I went to was in another state while I was on vacation! I haven't purchased anything from them since then! Hello, Saks.

littlebean, that is so weird they asked you to return and rebuy!

iirc, the las vegas store takes other cards, but since i don't have a nm around me anyhow, online is fine!

Well, I guess they don't want business from people who travel and only carry a Visa card for everything.

That sounds so bizarre! Why wouldn't a store accept Visa? I wonder how AmEx has managed to get that kind of a deal with them!

Could it be because they want to make sure people could afford to buy their stuff? I don't know, but aren't you supposed to pay your AmEx off every month? Cause yeah, you could be walking off with merchendise and never pay for it. My guess though!

My debit card (with a Mastercard logo) is just as good as cash, and I hate carrying cash!

Woah, thanks for all the responses, ladies! I just find it ridiculous that they don't accept Visa. It's everywhere you want to be (except NM!)

Thanks for the tip about online. I'll have to buy it online. It just frustrates me! Everytime I go there, I forget about their limitations, and never end up buying anything, because I can't!

that's ridiculous. I don't even think there is a NM near me....but whether there is or isn't, I'll never be able to shop there now! I only carry my Visa and debit card. No cash. Usually not my checkbook unless I'm on my way to pay rent, too. Goofy!

Neiman's only accepts Amex, but their offshoot store Cusp (think Neiman's Co-op) accepts all the majors. It's one of the reasons Neimans B&M is on my sh*t list of places I won't shop at.

Costco doesn't accept any credit cad besides Amex either, but at least I can use my Visa debit card.

That's nuts! 10 months is not even that long! I just opened a neimans card just because I earned a $100 gift card by doing so, but If I have to shop there every freakin week and be broke to keep this card open screw them !

I work with a guy who used to work at their corporate offices.  I was complaining to him about this and he said that to get around it, go to the customer service desk and buy a gift card.  When you do that, you can use any credit card and then you can just use the gift card to make your purchase.  He also said that if you buy it for an amount that is over the actual purchase that you can take it back, with the remaining amount, and get the remaining balance back in cash.  Not sure about that, since I've never done it, but at least you can use your visa or mc with a little extra work if you think it is worth it.  HTH

The only one accepting all major CC's is the Honolulu store.  I was told by their staff that since they have a high volume of Asian tourists, they'd accept Visa, M/C, Discover, AmEx, JCB, & Diners in addition to their own CC & personal checks.  This has made visiting other stores frustrating since I'm used to using my debit card @ NM.
