Update: Can I get some support? Presentation tomorrow.

I have to do a presentation in my class tomorrow. It's really not a big deal at all, but I HATE public speaking, and I'm still a bit nervous. I'm trying to turn that nervousness into excitment and focus on the fact that I graduate in 5 weeks, I only have 9 more classes left, and this is the LAST presentation for college I ever have to do!! Woo Hoo! Yet, the nervousness still finds a way to creep back in.I don't know why. It's a short 10 min pres. and everyone in my class is really nice, except for my teacher who is a jerk. Anyway, anyone else hate public speaking too? TIA!

Update:

I did it!!!!!!!!! It went REALLY WELL!!! All that stressing for nothing! I feel soooooooo much better now that it's over! I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off my shoulders, and I can breathe again! I don't have to do another class presentation ever again! I can't wait for graduation! Thanks ladies for the support! It really helped! :)

I don't hate public speaking, but oddly I've becoming more and more nervous about it every time (which is ridiculous... high school I was in all kinds of competitions and even on the speech/debate team)

But I always feel loads better about 1 minute into it. You get into a groove and basically go on autopilot if you're practiced a few times. You'll do great!

(p.s. I gave a presentation yesterday, and my professor in there hates me I swear. But the whole time, whenever I noticed someone looking at me they were all just smiling because I think they knew how nerve-wracking it must have been being the first one to go in this jerk's class. They even applauded me, which they didnt do for the other presentation! But a trick I've learned is to either look straight through everyone or focus at a point on a wall, or else pick someone in the middle of the classroom and pretend you're giving the lecture just to them.)

You'll do great!

I used to absolutely hate public speaking.  I mean it would give me nightmares throughout junior high I hated it so much.  But I've had to do it the past few years because of work and it has gotten so much easier.  One thing that I try to keep in mind when I get nervous is that I'm giving them information that they don't know, so in a sense, I'm the expert, as are you in this case.

Also, try to keep in mind that this really isn't that much different than if you were to be sitting in class and you raise your hand to ask a question or give a comment.  No different except you're speaking a bit longer and you're standing up.

Try to relax and get a good night's sleep.  You'll do great.  And congrats on almost being done with school!  Woohoo! biggrin

Thanks everyone! I'm trying to stay focused. I'm like an emotional stress rollercoaster, and have been all week. I think about my presentation and I get nervous. So then I do some deep breathing and I calm down. In my head is this struggle: "Oh god, Run!" "No wait. You can do it, you've done it before. Calm down." This cycle repeats. So my mood is up and down all day.

I guess the good news is that my presentation is at 8:00am, so it will be done with early. I will be sooo much better when it's over. I'm hoping I'll be too tired to care and will say "F*ck it, let's get this over with!" I'll let you guys know how it goes. :)

good luck! I have to make a speech every year at an awards ceremony. It's only about a minute long, but it KILLS me. I get so nervous. Just don't think about anything but the words just before, and when you get up there. Good luck!

You'll be great! 8am? No sweat! Just go to bed, and when you wake up tomorrow, you won't have all day to sit and ponder about it. I'm sure at least 2/3 of the class is feeling the same way you are, so just know that you're in good company. That always helps me get through presentations. Let us know how it goes!

You'll be fine. What I used to do is focus on something on the back wall that is close to the audience so it looks like you re looking at them, but you dont get nervous from all the eyeballs. Good luck!
