ok, so I claimed one of the attic bedrooms in our new house as a dressing room....but I'm kind of at a loss of where to start! i have a million ideas in a million different directions.

So....if you were designing a dressign room:
1) what are your absolute must-haves?
2) how would you arrange it all into this room (darn ceilings are going to be a problem, but the room is pretty ginormous- much larger than the pic makes it look)

have fun! I want to see what you all would do so I can steal your ideas. wink

well, the first question is, do you want to build it out with permanent cabinets/shelves/etc., or just put in elements that you can remove later?

I'd want a vanity w/stool, a nice full length mirror and a pretty, girly wall color. A chaise lounge would be nice too, you know to lay on and admire all your pretty clothes while you decide what to wear

lol definitely. If I had a dressing room I'd go all retro and get every kind of old dressing thing I could find - a vanity, maybe a dress form or two to put really pretty things on, armoire, and flowers :)

That is all kinds of wonderful!

I would want a three way mirror, built in shelving and cabinets, a huge ottoman that I could sit on while trying on my shoes, fantastically bright lighting, a table and chair - for makeup, and a wall where I could put a cork board holding all the tearout pictures of looks that I would want to copy!

My requirements would be...

* full length mirror by the window, set up for optimal picture taking and generaly outfit evaluations.

* adjustable dress form
.
* crative wall for inspiration. I'd probably get a garage sale frame and insert corkboard or cellotex (just like corkboard, but white) inside.

* chaise lounge OR cozy/girly armchair w/ottoman

* vanity area with good natural light. I'd need a table and chairs.

I'd switch out the carpeting for hardwoord/laminate (I hate when heels sink into carpet and such) and get an area rug for the center of the room

I'd also want to have a computer in the dressing room or have access to a wireless network so I can post all the pretty pictures of the pretty clothes in the pretty dressing room.

This month's issue of domino magazine has a whole article about the "perfect closet"--it's this girl's dressing room and on my lord, do I covet it!  She has a pretty light fixture, nice doors with mirrors built in, and tons of shelf space for shoes and bags.  She also has drawers for clutches and an armoire devoted just to jewelry.  I think seating is important too--either a bench, a big girly ottoman, or a chaise lounge so you can sit down and put your shoes on.

Have fun!  I'm so jealous that you have an extra room to do that with.

it depends on price (I dont have a ton to spend on this room), but ideally something that could be taken out if we need the space for something else/ decide to sell.

1st of all, did I miss a post? Congrats on the new house!  I knew you had started looking for loans, but I didnt know y'all found a house!

Here's my wishlish for a dressing room:
(Sorry for all the pics in advance)

French Style Ladies Dress Form with 7/8Dress Formimg84m.jpgAdj. Full Mirror

Chaise Lounge

Shadow boxes to display jewelry, etc.

Lingerie Chest for Accesories or lingerieaww

You could get simple wire shelving for your bags/shoes and buy a tent thing like this one:

What about stamp painting?  Is that the correct term?  It would be way cheaper than wallpaper and you could do maybe the flat side of the wall or the upper half like this?:

I'd totally do it up, Marie Antoinette style, with girly, frilly things. And a fainting couch, of course.

Also, I took this pic in a model home. Something like this would be so cute above the door:

I'm so jealous that you're getting an actual dressing room!

I'd love to have something like this in front of the window:

And definitely a full length mirror and a pretty rug. Ideally, I'd like floor boards that are painted white.

What a coincidence, I was thinking of the same thing today!  I was designing my closet online and got frustrated and made my way over here.

At least you got a window for natural light.  I only got what comes in from the bedroom, the best light in the afternoon/evening.

I made a list of wants:

*shoe display.  I'm tired of keeping them in their original boxes.  Either clear plastic boxes or tilted shelving.

*Storage so I can see my handbags, hats, belts, and scarfs.

*And I was thinking of maybe an island and then have a tray of my perfumes on top.

*Full length mirror.

*Ottoman so I can sit while putting on shoes or deciding what to wear.

i don't know whether it would work in your room, but i was reading a kate moss interview today and she did her dressing room like a boutique with sofas and a screen you get dressed behind etc - sounded pretty cool.
love the couch that halleybird posted too!

Ottoman or a longer low bench to sit on and throw things on.  Also, not the prettiest thing but so SO practical and iron and ironing board better yet if you can get one that folds up into the wall.  When I had my walk-in closet it was the best to be able to just quickly iron something while getting ready all in the same room.
