Lip stain alternative?
Permalink Closed

I picked up some Lorac roll-on lip stain with my Sephora GC last week, and I'm really disappointed in it .  It goes on oddly, and seems to pool where my lips meet, so I literally look like I've just finished a fushcia popsicle.  Not natural looking by any means.

I suppose what I was looking for is something like Clinique's black honey almost lipstick, but that actually stays on.  Does anyone have any lip product standbys that give some color but aren't as dramatic as a full-on lipstick?

elle, try any of the NARS lipsticks that start with "sheer"--there's three formulas and I think the sheer is the effect you're after.

i also have a perfect lip stain rec. but unfortunately it's been discontinued!  though my friend tells me she buys it off ebay now--philosophy's supernatural lip stain--looks dark in the tube, goes on so natural that it's like you're not even wearing anything.  plus, it looks great on all skin tones.  if you find it anywhere, snap it up!

i love nars sheer lipsticks, but yes, they wear off.  i also have stila lipstick in natalie, which is very nice, but wears off too.  I like vincent longo gel-x lipstick as well, very nice textures and colors.  And they have a lip and cheek stain too that you could try- it stained my hands for a long time, but i dont know if it would pool on your lips as well.  maybe its in the application?

I'm pretty much obsessed with mark's kissink lip markers.

It's seriously like coloring your lips with a magic marker so that's kind of fun. The color goes on slightly wet but it dries fast and stays on for ever. I've never had a problem with pooling or uneven color. It's a light, natural looking stain - doesn't look like I'm wearing lipstick at all. You can build the color, too, but it doesn't feel any heavier on your lips. The only bad thing is that the markers tend to dry out fast. I have four tubes in my bag right now and countless more at home, just in case.

Rica, where do you buy this? Do you have to order it online?

Will the color "melt" if you apply gloss over these?

I was at the Estee Lauder counter yesterday and I saw that they have a new lipstain/gloss duo.......I put it on in the lighter color (there is only two) and didn't seem too impressed, put the clear gloss over it.....then I decided to just buy the clear gloss. Got in the car and couldn't stop staring at my lips :) I am going back tomorrow to get it.....I highly reccomend it. It was so sheer and light, and then with the gloss over it was just lusciuos!!!

I never wear stain without some sort of gloss over it.  The gloss is usually a golden shimmer of some sort (I love Juicy Tubes Smoothie in Toffee Pop by Lancome).

When I apply stain, I swipe a tiny tiny bit across the bottom lip and immediately spread it around by quickly gliding my lips together lightly (don't want to squeeze the color onto my skin).  I breathe in while doing this so that it dries quickly and doesn't pool up anywhere.  If the cupid's bow part of my lips need a little extra definition, I'll apply a tiny bit there and blend immediately.

I use Morgen Schick's "Shick Stick" lip/cheek stain in "Healthy."  It's a berry color that mimmicks one's skin color when flushed.  I don't know if you can buy it anymore.  I like it because it has a pen-style package with a sponge blotter on the end. You simply dab the color on your cheeks/lips and blend. It's like a skinny version the daubers bingo players use to mark their cards!  smile
