Has anyone ever done any contract work on top of their full time job?

I have the opportunity right now to do some contract work on the side and I haven't discussed the details yet with the people that want me to do it so I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with contract work.  Do you usually get paid more for contract work?  Do you usually do it from home?

I am a CAD operator for an engineering firm if that makes a difference.

Well, I freelance on the side. I've been doing it for about 3 years now. I charge $80 an hour, which is a lot more than I get paid at work, but half of it ends up going to taxes. Yes, I do it from home.
