Headaches
Permalink Closed

Lately it seems like I have been getting a headache almost everyday. Is this normal? Could stress from school be causing it? My brother told me he only gets headaches like twice a year, so now I feel like something is wrong with me! Even before I'd get a headache like once a week or at least a few times a month. I take liquid Children's Motrin for my headaches and that takes care of them in a few minutes. But I don't like taking medicine all the time. I've heard taking pain medication can cause harm to your stomach. Does anybody have a remedy to cure a headache without medicine?

i have suffered from them a lot. I have found some of the causes to be- alcohol, stress, drastic changes in weather or temperature, my period, smelly cheeses, MSG (i had to cut out deli meat, chinese food and buffets of any sort), strong odors--- nail polish, perfumes, dyes, etc., allergy season or foods I am allergic to.

To treat them, I have tried steam....at the gym or in the shower, those shower steamer things work well, Origins temple massage cream works sometimes, a hot pack or one of those aromatherapy neck things you heat up in the microwave from Bath and Body works, Imitrex shots, a little caffeine (coffee, coke, Mountain Dew) when the headache starts, pure oxygen works (i have a prescription), and the best cure for a headache I have ever found is a little . Sometimes I just went to bed in a dark room.

you might want to try keeping a headache and food diary to figure out the causes. I also went to a headache clinic which helped a lot.

Maybe they're sinus headaches.  I get them a lot.  Afrin and Flonase work for me.  But if I don't catch them early, I need to take Excedrin Migrane and that does the job.  It's the best!

Last time I was getting daily headaches, I had my eyes checked and needed a new prescription for my contacts. That helped.

This is what I was going to say. I get vicious sinus headaches, and I've usually got the sinus infection to go along with it. Are you unusually congested and do you feel pressure in your face? That could be a sinus infection, in which case you'll need an antibiotic. In the meantime, you can alleviate the pain with Aleve Sinus Headache and/or an OTC sinus medication, like Sudafed.

I have headaches about weekly. I was floored when I discovered that some people never have them, because there are times when I'm taking tylenol every day for a week or two!

Caffeine helps, although I realize that's another drug. Stress, tiredness, diet could all be causes. If it persists, then I'd talk to a doctor. But if it's just lately or something that waxes and wanes, I'd think it's just a product of your lifestyle.

I second what boobaby said. When I had daily headaches, it turned out my eyes had gotten worse.

Also, are you getting enough water/ eating enough? I get headaches if I get too hungry or dehydrated.

I can totally sympathize. I have headaches that last for days (sometimes up to 10 days). The pain is never that severe, although sometimes it is, but it's ongoing and extremely annoying. I finally went to the doctor and she told me they're migraines. Apparently there are all kinds of migraines and ongoing pain over a lengthy period of time counts too. Or at least it does in my case.

Here are some things that help me: water, water, water (make sure you're always hydrated); relax your neck (get a heated neck pad or get a massage or whatever); and aleve - it's the only pain reliever that works for me, but different things work for different people.

Hope you feel better! And definitely go to a doctor if home remedies don't help.

I had a couple of killer headaches last week, and it turned out to be TMJ - I grind my teeth in my sleep. I didn't connect them with my aching jaw at first. This might not be the case with you, but it might be something to consider.

Thanks for the suggestions. I probably do need to drink water. All I ever drink is two sodas a day and sometimes a little juice.
I had my eyes checked a year ago and the eye doctor told me that my vision didn't change but I should stop reading with my glasses on. I had been doing a lot of reading lately (with the glasses on) so maybe that is also a contributor.
I haven't had a headache for a couple days, so I'll just keep these things up! Drink plenty of water and no glasses for reading.

I was going to tell you that you shouldn't drink sodas all the time.  I will get a headache if I haven't had my can of Pespi in two days.  That little tad of caffiene gives me withdrawls!  And damn, I have a slight headache because I haven't had my Pepsi today.
