It IS a great idea!!!! For the person that mentioned beauty products...they do that on makeupalley.com. It is a great set up, just click on "swap" and you can browse by peoples wishlist items that you have! But it has never been done with clothing....sounds like a blast!!!

I would love to do this too. But I have to admitt that I'd be afraid of getting jacked! x-mas exchages for example

How cool, i'm in!  I agree with Tati though.  Maybe this should be limited to members with a certain post count?

This has come up in the past. This is why we have an ebay section so that everyone can sell through the protection of a third party.

If you want to sell, I would suggest listing on ebay and posting in the ebay section.

As for the whole swapping thing - I'll be honest and say I really don't want to get into that on the site.  We have enough problems with a simple gift swap around here - I'd hate to see the nightmare clothing swapping would create.

It would be great if we lived in a world full of honest people.  I'd like to think everybody here is honest but there are people who pull stunts even during Christmas time.

D- I totally understand and understand some of the other girls' frustration too. Maybe we could each list what we have and just take PM about items and let each member decide who and if they are okay with it?

i'm not really in the mood to go to another forum i don't know just to swap stuff. it's more of a - if you'd like it you can have it for the girls here that we all know.

any other suggestions are welcome!

is there a way to do it through ebay?
Like post a list in the ebay section, and if someone is interested you can just set it up as a private auction at a low amount (to cover shipping and ebay fees)? It wouldn't be so much a swap as a "I dont' want this so if you do its yours" but the transaction would be covered legally through ebay, without the hassle of havign to take the time to list things that aren't goign to sell.
Just an idea.

the only way i'd like to entertain the idea is by doing something like the yahoo group thing Zeitgeist brought up.

I would also warn anyone who wants to do this to go in with an anticipation of disappointment.

if someone wants to look into what would be involved to do a swap group (i.e. yahoo or other examples provided), provide details into its set up and structure, and provide a compelling argument as to why we should do this, I'd be happy to look at it. If someone wants to submit a proposal, PM me.

Honest and candid thoughts to follow - no intention to offend anyone:

from what you're saying, i'm gathering that, for example, viv has a list of stuff she wants to give away - so you're going to pay for shipping and send your clothes to some random person for nothing in return?  And if you do want something in return (their clothes) do you really think that you would want the clothes of someone who wants your discarded clothes? I mean, if discarded clothes of no value to sell on ebay are a step up for someone, then do you really think you want their stuff in return?

just sayin...

I can't speak for anyone else, but the way that other Yahoo swap group works is that people actually sell the stuff they want to get rid of. Then the person who wants to buy will PM the seller and they make their own terms (type of payment, shipping cost, etc.) for the transaction, also done through PMs.

practically- i think the only way it could work is if everything had a $ amount, like a marketplace.  I think its harder to swap clothes than beauty products, and it might hurt peoples feelings (umm, no i'd rather not swap for THAT...) since you can't really make a list of what exactly you want the way you can w/a beauty product.  But i do think its totally a good idea to post a picure, a dollar amt, shipping amt, measurements etc and sell things like that via PMs- it could be good for things that are hard to unload on eBay (seven jeans when no one believes they're real anymore on ebay, clothes from urban outfitters, gap,  etc- that are really hard to sell on Ebay but totally worth paying 10/15 bucks for).

i don't think a swap per se would be the best idea. i agree that an outright sale would be in everyone's best interest. this, of course, is a personal preference.

i've sold items that didn't fit me right (i.e. something i posted about in weekend/day shopping threads). i've had good experience in that sense, but i don't think i'd be very interested in a trade.
