This should probably go in either the Travel or the Wedding section, but I was hoping it would get more traffic here.

We would like to get married in Maui, but it seems like it's going to be too expensive for our guests.  Does anyone have any suggestions or sites to check out to keep costs down, or that list travel deals?

Also, has anyone else gotten married in Hawaii?  Any suggestions or tips would be great.  Our date is sometime in October and I have yet to start planning!  I'm feeling really overwhelmed!

Hubby was the best man in a wedding in Maui.   I believe the bride & groom did a wedding package through the hotel they stayed at for the ceremony and small reception afterwards.  The guest list was extremely small.  Basically parents, wedding party, and a very few friends.  I think is went well, except for the officiant.  Be sure to do your homework and inform him/her of your wants.  The guy that did theirs was a TOTAL whack-job.
Ka'anapali is where they stayed, the resorts are really nice and the Westin has a great pool.  However you have to take a cab or shuttle bus to Lahaina which is a super-cute little town because Ka'anapali is basically resorts only.

Hubby and I found a condo to rent through AAA in Lahaina that was very reasonable. We thought it wouldn't be as fun since most of the other people had chosen resorts but it was awesome.  We could pretty much walk across the street and be in town - no cab or shuttle needed so we ended up saving even more time/money than if we would have stayed at the resort.  Plus we went to the grocery store and stocked up
We went on on a snorkeling tour to visit sea turtles, which I thought was okay.  UNTIL we went snorkeling on our own.  The beach at Lahaina has sea turtles that swim right up to you!  FOR FREE!  Yes we saw a shark on the tour but hey- it still wasn't worth the cost, especially when the beaches are so pretty.
